I was all set to do a post on the fact that the 21st marked my 7th full year in the Army, but then it turned into one of those days. Then one of those weeks. And now its not as funny anymore ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you got to take some leave and see your family. Sorry to hear you had to go back. I remember I really liked it when the PTB would make major changes concerning me while I was away. Sounds like you have that problem too.

Bummer that indirect fire is still hurled at you guys. I read some reports when I get time. But you-know-what is dominating headlines. "A people should know when they are conquered." J/K. I wonder if the Israelis' countermeasures system is any more effective. Heard what the Navy has been testing? Pretty awesome.

In other news, the Mrs and I are expecting our first child.

I've heard the Navy has been testing frickin' laser beams, which sounds awesome.
Haven't seen anything much of the Israeli thing, but I bet the hype is more than the reality.
Afghanistan seems to be dominating what coverage there is for CENTCOM. Iraq hardly seems to make the news at all these days.

And holy cow! Really? Sheesh, you, me, Edward...next we're going to hear there's a little Jesse or John Chodera on the way...we're turning into adults...who let that happen?

So glad you got to go home for a bit. If you get a chance, would you send me your "new" address? I have a pile of stuff for you. Literally.

Keeping you all in my thoughts, every day. Hang in there and stay safe!!

Hi Peri.
I got you last package, and have been meaning to write a letter back to let you know that yup, I'm still here, and my new addy, but settling in has eaten my time. I'm now at

1ID HQ, 3-3ID LNO
Unit 117 COB Basrah
APO AE 09374

Don't mail anything after September 1st, that's when we have to cut off mail to head home.
And funny thing: In September, my wife will be at a wedding in Chappaqua, right near you. Now I know where Briarcliff Manor is. :-)

Holy mackeral--we lived in Chappaqua for something like 10 years until we moved here!! Well, if your wife needs anything at all while she's in the neighborhood (literally in the neighborhood--like 4 miles away), tell her to holler--it'd be totally our pleasure to help, or even to get to buy her some coffee/tea/other consumable item. (Dare I hope that her friends in Chappaqua mean that maybe sometime, you guys might even be up in this neck of the woods together?)

Letter (possibly plural) and package (also possibly plural) will be on their way tomorrow. Gads, I can't tell you how happy I am to see that you're okay, and even happier that you're going on *mailstop* in just over a month! YEAH!!!!

She may call on you for a ride from the hotel back the Westchester County Airport. The checkout time is noonish, but her flight's not until evening. You may get to meet my unbelievably cute little girl.

Still Don't Know How To Work This Thing anonymous July 26 2010, 12:56:14 UTC
Glad to read a new post, no so happy it's still crappy over there. Saw pictures of the wee one...loved her sitting on Max. Send me your new address as well. Would love to send you stuff before I get completely crazy in the next 41 days. You know the wedding for the ages, or something. Will hoist a few to your safe and quick return.
Dumb question of day, know what FOB is what is a COB?

See above, there's you're new address. A FOB is a Forward Operating Base, which is now labeled a COS, Contingency Operating Station. A COB is the next size up, a Contingency Operating Base. Nothing around here changes but the labels.
