I'd not realized it was going to be a flywheel. That seems a really questionable design. If nothing else, I'd think you'd get some really interesting gyroscopic effects braking and accelerating through a corner.

I have a really distinct memory of seeing footage of a Lotus 56 or 56-B explode as a child, when the turbine wheel came apart at high RPM. Pieces went everywhere, just like a bomb. I can't find any mention of it now, though. I wonder if it may have been a test or something.
