Good Morning from the Battleground...

Jul 14, 2004 08:04

It's been awhile since I updated, but I think that I will dispense with the usual drama update and speak about something far more important.

In the last week I, and many others, have been drawn into an ugly situation that confounds me as to how we (here in Roanoke) could have let this happen. An awful gnat of a neo-nazi (oh wait... he's not a neo-nazi, he's a "Libertarian Socialist"... whatever... he hates Jewish and Black people) by the name of Bill White reared his ugly head in our little burg. He's been here for a bit, and to tell you all of the reasons why would take time that I do not have, so I will suffice it to say that he is buying up single family rental properties in a predominantly African American populated area and renovating them. Then he allegedly (always avoid the lawsuit) finds ways to remove the current tenants, particularly if they involve in race-mixing. Read more here: Roanoke Times.

This person is a well known gadfly in the antifa world and is no stranger to trouble EXACTLY as he is creating here in the 'Noke. He posts his ludicrous vitriol at Overthrow.com (no link, sorry he's not getting hits from me, but feel free to type it in). In fact he posted a fine little profile of me characterizing me as a gay, overweight McDonalds manager who came to Jesus by singing in a black church. As you can see he is nearly as fair and balanced as the fine folks over at Fox News. You can read more about his antics at One People's Project and at Citizens Against Hate.

There will be an informational meeting regarding how we can help those tenants that have been displaced by these events and how to best combat White's brand of hatred from 1-4 pm on Saturday 17JUL2004 at the Downtown Roanoke Library Auditorium. Please attend if you can.

The upside of the above is it gives me the opportunity to organize a benefit show for the folks living on Chapman Ave... I will be securing a date on Saturday, but it will be held at Factory 324 on Salem Ave. It appears that three guys who haven't played together in a long long time may well be reuniting for this show... could be cool...

More later!
