This is a concept I've struggled to understand until today. It has been much talked about around the Maher household, but not really uinderstood ( Read more... )

It's not easy and, as much as I empathise, I don't have any answers and I can't tell you it gets easier!

Don't be self-critical. Nothing but nothing is ever perfect and LRPers will always find something to complain about.

If you want to pop into my plot sauna at the next PD event I'll show you how we organize ourselves so you can see if there is anything we do that you can steal to help make your life a little easier.

Heh.. i've already stolen masses without you knoing it ;-)

A lot of how we do our NPC's is the way I percieve Malestrom doing it, though a lot of it like databasing what happened when they went out wasn't implemented trhough time issues.

I'll always be self critical as I doubt i'll ever reach the point we are aiming for, but to be honest that will keep it entertaining for me. Well entertasining in a very painful way. Though, usual organiser self pity aside, we did miss a lot of our goals throguh timing on this one. But doing it so close to the G and your last event of the year always meant we were cutting it close. and the amount of stuff that "was in Allens Head" meant there was a time consuming critical path of development for him.

The next event should be veeery different. You should come.

I need to book a time with you and t'wife to pop down and return the baby stuff we have of yours (one of theose life after EOS jobs), we can chat more about it then.

Heya Stu,

I think it was a good event. I think at a new event both players and crew are feeling their way. I do wonder at times If I was lucky i missed the first maelstrom despite booking for it as so many of the summer court did not come back as it was not the game they liked but at the same time i think that maelstrom has changed massively from that first game.

I think you have a similar thing here but no one I had heard doesn't want to come back. There were problems but you as refs accepted them and dealt with them. No game can be perfect.

Hell i had no idea what to write for our group background so you didn't really get anything off us. now I have done an event I have more ideas and have all sorts of stuff iw ant to get shaped up for the raggard and hopefully will over the next couple of weeks. (out of a matter of interest who should we send this to you? allen? Alan? some or all of the above?)

Not sure I agree with that Tom. A lot of us in the original court were staff at CP at the time and the second maelstrom event clashed with the 3rd CP event of the year. We came back to the third and found that we had just misssed to much adn were playing catch up. Rather than continue to play catch up for ever more, we did something else instead.

Also Stu, as i've said I have run events at that same site before and the warden booked in scout groups as well when we were there to! that and drove a tractor around all weekend annoying the bejesus out of me. I certianly wont be using that site again.

I know how tough it can be to run stuff, I for one did not notice any problems and had a fantastic time.

Running an event + small child = much more stress than is healthy.
Sadly it took me three years and a near breakdown to completely understand this fact.

Hugz - it sounds like the event went well though. Sorry I missed it :-(

Yours has been the only really negative comments I've seen so far. That tells me that:
a) it was a success, and,
b) I missed out courtesy of buying a new car.

So take the time to pat yourself on the back whilst beating yourself up. I am sorry to have missed it and the word of mouth will definitely get me to attend and maybe whip up a Notts delegation.

Well done
