Why is it that the Air Force commercials are highlighting duties that are more commonly performed by the United States Army or Marine Corps, I mean, when your version of camping involves either a hotel room or an air conditioned tent, you don't get to claim to be hardcore. But seriously, driving around and exploding IEDs, or dropping off rangers in ( Read more... )

Or, more likely, ground logistical/technical support for air superiority fighters and bombers.

Remember when channel one advertised the military 1-2 times per commerical break?

The only thing the air force does that I can think of which is even close to dropping off rangers in helicopters is their special fores unit, CSAR, which I believe to be combat search and rescue. They're like EMTs or paramedics, to the extreme. Basically, their job is to be dropped off, then they run like ten miles through combat, kill about 500 people with their bare hands, and then re-attach someone's limb with dental floss before carrying them back out ten miles while killing another 500 people.

Or something like that.

Thanks Dan, I'm sure that they have taken on doing some of that stuff, it's just that when you think Air Force you really think about super high-tech jet fighters. It's really confusing to not see things from that angle.

Well I forgot to mention that for every, say, 2,000 people in the air force, only one is CSAR. I believe the unit was set up to extract downed and wounded pilots from behind enemy lines, as that's what they were used for in the Battle of Mogadishu (aka Blackhawk Down).

Basically, Air Force = Chair Force. They're very well paid, have very nice living conditions, hardly if ever see combat, and basically sit around and drink coffee all day while playing solitaire on the computer.

Kinda like the Navy.
