It's interesting that this is the place that I turn to when I'm feeling maudlin. It's been here since 2000, a sounding board from my sadder thoughts, a melancholy blot over the rest of my life. Yeah I move things wayyy too slowly myself, and look too carefully to make sure that there's signs there anything would be recieved well. Messes things up sometimes...

One thing I'm currently trying is the site OK Cupid, which you may very well have an account for as they host a lot of online quizzes that were once all the rage (and are again for a new generation thanks a lot facebook blah) and you may have signed up for it while taking one way back in the day. I had in 2005. It's far from perfect but it's free and most people there aren't a total mess as is the case many places online. I met my current girlfriend through there.

I know a few people in similar situations who have used OK Cupid with success. And as much as speed dating is a punchline for sitcoms, it actually is a good way to meet someone.

Yeah...returns on it for me were nonexistent for a while, I'm not great at selling myself upfront either. Really it basically took the 'icebreaker' system they recently introduced to start getting anywhere. Despite its shot in the dark nature, allowing the system to randomly shove two people into talking with each other works somewhat well.
