guerilla four-square.
okay. so. you all remember four-square, right? that was the game you played in elementary school where you and three friends would each stand in a corner of one big square that had been divided into four. you'd pass a big bouncing ball to one another by bouncing it off the ground first, the rule being that if the ball bounced more than once in your square, or if you missed the ball altogether, you were out. as people got out, others would advance and move to the next square. you could do it with a bunch of people in a tournament stylee, or just with three good friends. the squares were numbered, and the person in square number four had been playing the longest. the person in square number one either just entered the game or had just been gotten out.
yeah. you remember that? (if anybody remembers additional rules, please tell me. i haven't played in forever.)
well. i recently got an idea that will change the way that we view four-square for all eternity. a monumentous idea that will no doubt be the single most important idea you hear all week. here it is:
GUERILLA FOUR-SQUARE.
you will need:
a can of light-colored spray paint (white or hot pink work best).
three like-minded, sexy friends.
black clothes (or just dark ones. nothing too flashy).
a change of regular, everyday clothes (because bad guys wear black and you'll want to change if the man comes pokin around).
a big, bouncing ball (preferably one of those big yellow PE balls with the grippable surface that we used in elementary school).
a getaway car.
so the goal here is to pull up to some place with an open, concrete area (parking lot, playground, airport runway, nuclear testing facility, sewage treatment plant, etc.), and quickly lay down a big ol' square with your paint. make it about eight-by-eight, and be as exact as possible, but no one's going to poke out your eyes if you're a few inches off. then: bisect the sqare in both directions, thus cutting it into four, equal four-by-four squares. then: play. play four-square as if your life depended on it. play fast. play hard. play until you're beat, or until you think you might get caught, and get in the car and drive to your next location.
repeat. repeat all fuckin night.
in addition to four-square being fun as hell, the element of danger is a much-welcome aspect, and it raises the stakes. the most important thing here is that you have fun, but the bonus is that you will leave four-square courts impinted on public & private property all over the city. i want this movement to reach the ends of the globe, so feel free to start a league in your hometown. if you live in seattle, hit me up. you can join ours. the more people, the more games, the more courts, the more fun. do it. do it hard.
happy bombing.
