Emily, from a English Lit majors perspective having done the theatre perspective too, there is still value in reading a play for literature reasons only. Kill me for saying this, but when I read Shakespeare for classes these days, I read them for content and story, not acting. But then again I'm not acting anymore. IN SHORTTTTTTTTTTT, if the chick saying that nonsense was a Lit major, give her some lee-way. Sometimes we don't hear the actual play in our heads; we hear the brilliance of the writer instead. Don't get me wrong, my acting voice is still there. You can't turn that off. Sadly. Cause I want it GONE!

Maggie, I agree that there is value in reading plays for literary value, however what really got me about this woman (who is actually a Russian major) is that she was claiming that they could never be performed to her liking...ever...which I think is kind of absurd.
