About Holmes and Watson's age and birthdates

I'm currently working on a modern!AU for compaubigbang for which I'd need the exact birthdates of Holmes and Watson (so that I can make the modern timeline as accurate as possible). As accurate as I can get upon doing research (and from what I remember from the books) is that Watson is two years older than Holmes, born in 1852 which would mean Holmes was born ( Read more... )

Any and all speculation on H&W's birthdates is guesswork. There is no Canonical ruling on the question. The closest we get is a statement in LAST that 'Altamont' is "sixty" (in August '14) but that's presumably approximate.

That being said, Baring-Gould chose a pair of dates that have become traditional: January 6, 1854 for Holmes, August 7, 1852 for Watson. Many Sherlockians use those.
