Confession

I consider myself fairly well-versed in the field of films-that-suck-or-don't, but I've never seen The Godfather, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Rear Window, Sunset Blvd., Fargo...

Because I am trying desperately to put off cleaning my office and organizing my files, I'm going to make a films-that-do-not-suck-at-all list.

Oh, yes!: All About My Mother, The Hours, Mulholland Drive, Ma vie en rose, Stand by me, Shawshank Redemption.

Oh, no!: Uncle Buck, Goonies, Young Frankenstein.

What?!: Scream.

I love heteroclite lists - thank you :)

Such big words - heteroclite.

Of course you don't like Uncle Buck or Goonies.

But Young Frankenstein? One of the most brilliant films EVER.

P.S. I think Scream is extremely smart for a film in it's genre, especially since I (used to) love horror films.

Scream is to horror what Shakespeare In Love is to Shakespeare, and what Wet Hot American Summer is to every-genre-flick-ever-made.

Actually, one thing I have noticed in the vocabulary world is that there are a number of words that are currently used in French that look and sound exotic when used in English, eventhough they are correct English words, too. For a moment there I wasn't sure it even existed in English but www.dictionary.com nodded (Yes, I checked).

Ok I must admit I absolutely loved Young Frankenstein when I saw it as a kid. But today, I don't know.

I'm not sure what this means:
"Of course you don't like Uncle Buck or Goonies."
but I'll take it as a compliment.

I looked it up, too. Ha!
Main Entry: 1het·ero·clite
Pronunciation: 'he-t&-r&-"klIt
Function: noun
Date: 1580
1 : a word irregular in inflection; especially : a noun irregular in declension
2 : one that deviates from common rules or forms

Still, Young Frankenstein? It's not a kid's movie!

And with which films, then, would you replace these so-called not-good-very-bad choices of mine? Huh? Huh?

I'll try to help you out a tad. Gone With the Wind? Whiney, spoiled debutante. I just didn't get it. Perhaps it's my lack of patience for whining heiresses.
Meanwhile, lemme throw out a few obscure and oft-forgot favorites of my own: Light it Up, Jane Eyre, Jesus (NBC made-for-TV, 2000), Total Eclipse, Crooklyn, Polyester, Office Space, Revenge of the Nerds....
The Shawshank Redemption....excellent!
