rexluscus posted something about fandom's conception of love that I agreed with very much, and I decided to ramble on the subject.

I could believe he'd fall apart without that person all aways around to press his shirts and remind him to eat and keep track of things.

"As I stood in my lonely bedroom at the hotel, trying to tie my white tie myself, it struck me for the first time that there must be whole squads of chappies in the world who had to get along without a man to look after them. I'd always thought of Jeeves as a kind of natural phenomenon; but, by Jove! of course, when you come to think of it, there must be quite a lot of fellows who have to press their own clothes themselves and haven't got anybody to bring them tea in the morning, and so on. It was rather a solemn thought, don't you know. I mean to say, ever since then I've been able to appreciate the frightful privations the poor have to stick."

(here from rexluscus by way of curriejean)

The trouble is Ianto's death wasn't just a death. It was something that happened to people (I mean Steven as well) he loved because of mistakes he made... [A]nd he tried to get through that bad situation by doing what his hero would do, and he failed.

Complete agreement. He walked into that room with nothing more than a useless pistol and a speech. And, yeah, it was a nice speech (I, too, liked the philosophy -- go Wobblies!) but the Doctor gets away with that because 1) he's the god-damned Oncoming Storm*, 2) he thinks on his feet faster than just about anybody left in the universe, 3) SONIC SCREWDRIVER EX MACHINA**. When Jack tried it... in retrospect, it seemed to me like a kitten showing you it's THIS BIG. Yeah, that's so cute. I feel so threatened. Now stop chewing on my shoe laces.

But I've been reading an awesome fanfic that is very cheering and I'll bet you're all reading it too. Hooray for fanfic!Share? or am I just embarrassing myself by admitting I haven't read any other ( ... )

Exactly, exactly. I felt so bad for Jack. In a way his life purpose for over a hundred years was to live up to the Doctor, and he failed. Now tell me a shag with a cute boy is gonna fix that? Pfft.

Hahaha, no. I just imagine everyone is reading because omg BNF right? It's this fic this fic :D And it's wonderful. :D

Thanks for stopping by. :)

The main thing I found touching about the Jack/Alonso scene: After spending "Utopia" (IIRC) telling Jack to not flirt, the Doctor finally acknowledged that part of Jack. Nope, a cute boy isn't going to fix things, but maybe it'll give him a little more hope to carry on....

Yep, I'm waiting for the whole thing to be posted so I can slurp it down in one glorious read. :D
