More writing

Hookers and Harlots
Buffy and Spike stood inside Spike’s crypt. Dust shone in a ray of sun from the boarded-up window. “It’s a Tralug demon you’re after...nasty taste for hookers and harlots,” Spike said. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a puff. “I can’t say I blame him though.”

Buffy contorted her face and replied, “Ugh, Spike, seriously? Prostitutes? That’s disgusting.”

“What? “ Spike asked. “It’s an easy blood supply. It’s not like a vamp can get AIDs, love.” He took another puff of his cigarette. “And besides, they taste kinda tangy,” he said with a smirk, “like Sweet Tarts.”

INT. THERAPIST’S OFFICE - DAY

DR. KRALL (43) is sitting in a leather chair in his office.
He is a balding man wearing a white dress shirt with a navy
blue tie. The walls are covered in diplomas, and his
mahogany desk sports various knick-knacks, including a
complex version of a Newton’s Cradle.

Beside the chair that Dr. Krall is sitting in is a matching
leather couch. On the couch, STEVEN (35) is lying down. He
is wearing a loose-fitting grey t-shirt and faded blue jeans.
Dr. Krall finishes writing a note on his notepad and
underlines it. It reads “feelings of insecurity.”

DR. KRALL
Well Steven, it seems that you’re
comparing yourself to unrealistic
ideals. You set impossible
standards, then despair when you
cannot meet them.

Steven squirms on the couch and clears his throat

STEVEN
But the job’s so competitive. I
can’t keep failing...

DR. KRALL
It’s definitely a competitive
field. I’m not arguing with you
there. But it takes a lot of work.
You don’t just wake up one day and
become a Doctor or a Captain.

STEVEN
Yeah but...what about Darryl?

DR. KRALL
We’re not talking about Darryl,
we’re talking about you Steven.

STEVEN
Yeah, but he didn’t have to work
for where he’s gotten to.

DR. KRALL
Well, some people are naturals
Steven. It’s rare, it happens, but you
can’t compare yourself to them.
Remember? Unrealistic ideals.

Dr. Krall stands up, walks to the window of his office, and
looks out.

DR. KRALL (CONT'D)
How did the homework assignment we
suggested go? Remember? Choose a
small project and see it through to
completion.

STEVEN
Yeah, it went ok I suppose.
Dr. Krall turns around from the window, walks back to the
chair, and sits down.

DR. KRALL
Tell me about it.

STEVEN
Well, I decided on something small.
Not trying to take over the world
or something. I pulled it off and
made some money...and I got
mentioned in the newspaper.

DR. KRALL
Well that’s great news!

STEVEN
It was on page 12.

DR. KRALL
That’s still a good first step.

STEVEN
Of section D.

DR. KRALL
Steven, you were successful and
made the newspaper. Regardless of
where you were mentioned, you’ve
taken a good first step. You might
make the front page someday, but
that needs to be worked up to.

Dr. Krall closes his notepad and stands up.

DR. KRALL (CONT'D)
For now I’m afraid our time is
over. Before our next session I’d like
you to take on another project.
Something small again, and make
sure to do something that works
well with your skills.

Steven stands up from the couch.

Dr. Krall puts his hand on Steven’s shoulder and walks him to
the door of his office.

DR. KRALL (CONT'D)
Also Steven, you should really
start dressing for the job you
want, not the job you have. You
need to “dress to impress” as they
say. Something flashy.

Dr. Krall opens the door and the pair step out into the
waiting room.

INT. WAITING ROOM - DAY - CONTINUOUS
The waiting room is a small room with a pair of couches and a
small coffee table with old magazines. JEFF (38) is sitting
on one of the couches. He is wearing a dark blue body suit,
cape, and mask. He is flipping through an issue of Time
magazine.

DR. KRALL
Have a good day Steven. Jeff, you
can come in now.

Jeff stands up and follows Dr. Krall into his office. The
door closes behind them. It reads “Dr. Krall, P.hD --
Supervillain Therapist.”

Steven leaves the waiting room through the exit.

3 EXT. OFFICE BUILDING FRONT STEPS - DAY
Steven stands at the top of the stairs, having just come out
the front doors.

He opens his jacket and removes a number of old magazines
that were in Dr. Krall’s waiting room.

STEVEN
One step at a time, one step at a
time.
