I loved The Hobbit. I really liked their tie in to the beginning of Fellowship!

Martin Freeman is adorably prissy as Bilbo, which is so very Bilbo. The cave scene should've been a bit darker, but it still freaked me the fuck out the first time! I now admit that scene has a lot of great humor, but guh, I have always hated the cave scene, it creeps me out in the book, the animated movie, and now in this. I think the idea of being in the dark with an unstable creature is just horrifying.

The soundtrack. My god, I am addicted. Especially the dwarf songs! I love that they included dwarves singing, and they made them sound good, too!

The fucking dragon kite. But guys, from Smaug's silhouette it looks like he might not end up as one of those beefy lumpy creatures that concept artists seem to love these days. You know what I am talking about, the fucking lumpy monsters. Like Godzilla from the Mathew Broderick version, or like the big dragon from the end of How To Train Your Dragon, or basically any modern movie with a CGI monster. It's like they don't want to worry about bone structure and musculature, so they just add beefiness. I want to see some angular dragon, for real.

I didn't really care for the overall shape of the trolls, but I still loved them. Ah, William and Bert...

I liked some of the goblins designs, but not all of them. All the ones fighting were dwarf and man-sized. I'd have liked to see one or two slightly larger goblins, since we did get to see smaller ones. They looked a lot like Jim Henson goblins in the face.

And then of course there's Sylvester McCoy's face, which I think does a great job at anything it does. Sylvester should be damn glad he owns it. Thorin is a stubborn dick, as ever. Bofur is the most perfect dwarf, and I am not just saying that because I love James Nesbitt.

And let's hear it for the fact that everyone in Middle Earth knows like every blade by name and deed. That'll come in handy! Bet they had flash cards when they were younger.

I want to decorate my apartment as some sort of weird hybrid of Hogwarts, 221B Baker Street, and Bag End. I will call my place 221 Bag End.

There's probably a lot more I want to say, but I want to go cook myself a box without hinges, key, or lid. Ta for now!
