((Takes place the same evening as
this post.))
Matt: *Matt sits in the cafeteria during dinner at a table all by himself for once. Pushing around his food, if you can call it that, with his fork, his expression is one that tells people to stay far away from him. He is in no mood for talking to anyone after Wellington's most
recent post , but at least the other man had finally deleted it. He tells himself that very few people would have actually seen it, but a certain nagging feeling keeps him moody and unsociable.*
Wellington: *Wellington makes his way into the cafeteria by himself, smiling in a self-pleased way. His blazer and scarf are still absent and his hair is still loose (though slightly less tangled now). He takes a tray of food-- a corn dog, french fries, vegetable medley, apple juice, and a cookie --and peers around the room, trying to focus his poor vision enough to see a place to sit. Within seconds he recognizes Matt by his distinctive jacket colors. For a moment he smirks in vicious amusement, but then carefully sets his expression into a soft smile before walking over to Matt and unhesitatingly sitting down next to him.* Hello Matt! *his voice is perky*
Matt: *Glares at the man as he sits down next to him, hoping the glare will send him away. However, as he sees the stupid smile on Wellington's face, his anger disappears and he instead sighs.* Hey dude. *He lets his fork fall from his fingers onto his plate.*
Wellington: How are you, Matt? Is your face okay? *continues smiling as he starts picking through his vegetables with a plastic spork*
Matt: Yeah. *His voice is sharp as he looks straight ahead, away from Wellington.* I'm fine.
Wellington: That's good! *picks a carrot out of the cooked vegetables and eats it* ...So what are we going to do today, Matt?
Matt: *Grits his teeth before he turns his head to look at Wellington.* Nothing. I'm going to get to bed early tonight.
Wellington: *smiles amiably* Okay! I guess you got "winded easily," huh? You should get lots of rest so you feel better. *picks up his juice box and sips it*
Matt: *His eyes narrow quickly.* Shut up. I'm more than fine. I just don't want company right now.
Wellington: *puts down his juice* Alright. We'll avoid company then. *cheerfully takes another bite of the vegetables*
Matt: *Pauses.* I meant you too, Wellington.
Wellington: *tilts his head and swallows the broccoli he was chewing on* You don't want me around, Matt? Did I do something wrong..? I'm just trying to help...
Matt: *His frown turns into an angry snarl.* Explain to me just how you are helping, dude.
Wellington:... *stiffens up for a moment and stares at Matt with widened eyes, but then a second later he forces himself to resume a simple smile* I just want you to be happy, Matt. Since you've done so much for me...
Matt:... *Finally lets out another sigh, shaking his head.* Then just...don't talk to anyone else, okay? *He sees the odd reaction, but assumes that the weaker man was just hurt by what he said.*
Wellington: *looks at him with a curious expression* So I'm only allowed to talk to you? How come? *resumes sorting his vegetables with the spork*
Matt: Because I said so and you want to make me happy because I've done so much for you, right? *Forces a small smirk.*
Wellington: *nods* Oh yes. You've done a lot for me, Matt... and you're going to keep helping me, right? Because I really need your help... *brushes his bangs back and shoots Matt an almost pleading look*
Matt: *Pauses, his smirk fading from the sweet look Wellington is giving him.* ...I already promised you I would. *Sitting back in his seat, he crosses his arms.* And Matt Engarde doesn't lie.
Wellington: *smiles brightly* Thank you, Matt! I appreciate all the good things you've done for me. *takes one last bite of his vegetables, then puts the spork down and pushes his tray to the side*
Matt: *His uncovered eye widens as he motions with one gloved hand to Wellington's still full plate.* Aren't you going to finish eating? You love corn dogs and fries, dude. And peanut butter cookies are your favorite!
Wellington:.......... *his smile tightens* ... I guess I wasn't hungry today.
Matt: No, I bet you are really hungry. You really didn't eat much for lunch today, either. *Pauses before he eye narrows.* Eat it.
Wellington:......Ah... *Slowly reaches for his tray and pulls it back, staring at the remaining food. He then looks back up at Matt.* Okay... Matt. *turns to stare at the food, his smile bordering on a grimace* ...If you say so. *hesitantly picks up the corn dog*
Matt: *Smiles as he continues to watch the smaller man.* Hurry up. I want to get going. Eat it.
Wellington:...... *takes a small bite out of the end of the corn dog, chews it once, then swallows it quickly. He turns his face away from Matt so Matt can't see his disgust.* ....Yeah, I love corn dogs.
Matt: *Smiles wider as he uncrosses his arms, moving to instead rest his head in his palm.* I know.
Wellington: *Gradually manages to finish eating half the corn dog before he drops it onto the tray. He forces another smile and turns back to Matt.* It's really good... but I'm full. And I don't want to make you wait for me, Matt.
Matt: *His voice drips with sarcasm.* Come on, dude. You have to at least finish the cookie. *His smile sharpens into a smirk as he leans in closer to Wellington.*
Wellington: *barely manages to avoid flinching at Matt's close proximity, then looks down at the cookie as if he's afraid to touch it for a moment, then turns back to and smiles again at Matt* They are really tasty. Will you share it with me?
Matt: *Shakes his head.* Thanks for the offer. *Chuckles.* But I'm full. It's all for you.
Wellington: *tilts his head so his loose hair almost falls over his face* Are you sure? I don't mind; I like sharing with you.
Matt: *His eyes narrow again.* Wellington, just eat it. I want to get out of here.
Wellington: *his shoulder twitches slightly* ...Okay Matt. I'll... eat it. *Picks up the cookie, pauses for a moment, then takes a bite, eating it quickly. He then turns away from Matt again so he can grimace at the rich butter and sugar he could taste in it, tightening his shoulders so that he doesn't shudder.* Great... it was a great cookie. *picks up a napkin and wipes his fingers off, then quickly stands up before Matt can tell him to eat anything else on his tray* Alright, I'm done. We should go now, huh?
Matt: *Smiles smugly.* Yep. *Slides his chair back and stands up, leaving his tray on the table.* Clear my tray, dude.
Wellington:.....Okay, Matt. *smiles thinly and picks up both trays* ...I guess I'll leave you alone now, since you don't want company.
Matt: *Laughs.* I think I changed my mind, dude! *Suddenly claps Wellington very hard on the back.* You totally cheered me up! Let's go hang out together for a bit!
Wellington: Oof! *winces and staggers enough that a few french fries roll off of his tray and onto the floor* ...Um... okay Matt. I'd like that! *smiles again* I just... wouldn't want to get in your way...
Matt: *Laughs again.* Not at all, dude. Now hurry up and clear those trays so we can get going!
Wellington: *his fingers tightly clench the plastic trays* Alright Matt. Thanks for letting me help out. *turns away from Matt and walks towards the disposal bins*
Matt: *Flips open the phone on his wrist to check the time before he snaps it shut, waiting for Wellington. There were still a few hours before lights out and Matt planned on having a bit of fun before then.*
Wellington: > *Wellington dumps the trays, then lingers at the spot, giving himself a moment to reset his composure and think about his plans. He didn't know what would happen if he dropped the act, but he knew Matt wouldn't react well, especially considering that the last thing Wellington did before going under amnesia was try to kill him. Matt was clearly taking advantage of him, and it insulted him enough that he was very tempted to stop the act right then despite the danger. Still, despite the frustrating slack in appearance he was forced to endure, he realized he had his own advantages, and that he could get away with much more against Matt without retaliation. He could further damage Matt's reputation without getting hurt. His spirits renewed by the thought of low-consequence revenge, he puts on a convincing smile and returns to Matt, his mind busily working on schemes to drag the former actor deeper into the mud.*
