I will always carry a memory with me from my childhood. I do not know if it is beautiful or useful, but it has stayed in me like a chemical, and now I will sweat it out like a boy going on his vision quest. ( Read more... )
deer heads to me always seemed so tranquil. when i was little, i was much more afraid of them than i am now. my reasons were simple, childlike; i feared the heads not only because they looked regal and far above me, but because i had to lean far out over the banister to touch their dried, plastic noses on the wall.
later in life when they stopped appearing so imposing, i used to run up the stairs and talk to those heads on the wall. their eyes looked to me not insane or mad, but compassionate and deeply understanding. they made me want to bare my soul, even though they were made of unblinking, unrealistic glass.
telepathically, i communicated my sorrows to creatures who seemed to me far more receptive to my heart in death than they could ever have been in life. i spoke to them until i realized that i wasn't lonely anymore.
