"I make this point because recently I started to wonder what it is that allows certain people to make profound discoveries. I was thinking about Jeff's essay on Moby Dick, and I wondered if it was possible for a college student to make a critical insight into something that has been pondered over and over again by those probably more qualified to ( Read more... )

can it still be called a revalation the 5th time you revel in it? thedr_is_in April 30 2005, 01:37:17 UTC
I constantly battle with that thought. Everything I think has already been thought. It is new to me, and maybe even inspired by something new, but it is always old thought. The only good I find in this is the fact that I am thinking. The very fact that I am pensive and have considered some major questions of the or my human condition. Thought is exciting. But Fucking tiring. Sleep is the Enemy of Thought. Goodnight.

Sometimes I want to back up 2 years and to run along side you--but I'm kind of glad I can't, and didn't in the first place, because I'd probably always lack your insight and lyricism, and being either awed or jealous. Maybe. Maybe not.

E-rock stole that from Maris Jameson, who described that move as "killing your children." His is much better.

I feel like I have yet to get writing advice that has helped me or changed me since leaving his tutelage.

the good docta knows, sleep IS the enemy.

as i told you, i was really impressed that your paper drew so much from the primary text. i'm used to just rehashing various criticisms into something new. its kind of tarentino-like plagerism of texts. but i always feel that those "scholars" must know what they're talking about. so i snatch their quotes, link various theories together and go "viola! this NEW theory is mine" but its not. its more about my interpretation of other's interpretations of text. you, sir, have swerved from that. you take some kirky and some lukac and you make magic from your own brain.

thats enough praise. i flatter you enough. i'll just say that your brain is my favorite. and you better lay off the dick (moby) and get cracking on some screenplay work, bitch. cuz thats the only thing i can pretend to know.
