Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post. I would respond to each of you individually but I am so exhausted at the moment, and emotionally drained and lacking of time, that I just have to comment to all of you here at large. Your support to me has meant a lot and I really appreciate it. Reading words of support has been extremely ( Read more... )

Maybe I'm naive myself, but why do you have to go through the university? Can't you press criminal charges? Universities traditionally have very strict procedures since they are NOT courts of law, and therfore have to be even more protective of the accused lest they be sued for slander/libel/defamation what have you. Universities like to "keep things in the family" in order to protect their safe and wholesome image, too, but you are under no obligation to worry about that.

That said, there is a political and academic reality that if you go outside the university system, that may well have consequences on your future career. This is unfair but also must be kept in mind, for your own protection. Personally, I find the political aspect of academia nauseating and toxic, which is why I ultimately did not go down that road, and I think that even if its harmful its better to live according to your principles than kowtow to the academic code of silence. But that's just me.

Ugh, that's just awful and sick. Three witnesses to a crime that is hardly performed in public is a ridiculous expectation.

However, I'm glad that you're not giving up and are doing the best you can. You go ♥

this is terrible. and it's the reason why a lot of assault against women goes unreported. we have the same problem in new zealand, and usually women are too scared to report anything in the first instance. so in the end, he's probably going to go around doing it again. makes me horribly angry.

it's great that you've been so strong about it ♥ good luck.

It's sick that you have to deal with this. It really is.

Again, thank you so much for coming forward with this.
