APPEARANCE:
1 2 3Obviously she won't have wings since this is an AU. Nill stands roughly around five feet tall and rather slender. She has long, straight blonde hair which she usually wears down, but sometimes she puts it into pigtails. Her eyes are blue, and she's said to have a face of an angel.
PERSONALITY: While Nill is young and mute, she is anything but helpless and meek. Nill has been a survivor ever since she was born. She is strong, loyal, and looks inside the heart of others. She never judges people quickly, but instead she sees how people treat her. She's had a tough life, and she understands not everything is so black and white. With this very harsh upbringing, she still has maintained a rather positive outlook on life. She can easily be called resilient, giving hope to those around her. She believes the good people in her life are worth all the bad experiences. She likes seeing the good in people, and she tries her best to be a good person. She believes being kind to others makes the world a better place... and well, this world needs a lot of kindness to make it a good place.
Her upbringing caused her to be cautious and shy around new people, even avoidant in some cases. She has gotten a lot better with this as she's been exposed to more people, but sometimes old memories and fears linger (she does try to look forward to a better future, though). She was rarely exposed to normal things children are used to such as school, sleepovers, play-dates, birthdays, etc. This has affected her, but she takes it positively as a learning experience, open to growing as a person. These lack of normal child experiences and teenager ones cause her to be a bit naive at times. Even with her hard childhood, there still a childhood innocence to her that is easy to see and very heart warming to those who know her. She's curious, quick on her feet, and quick to help anyone if she can. She is very thankful for those who have helped her, and this has inspired her to help those who have been kind to her. She always tried her best at whatever she does, especially if it's something like helping a friend out.
Nill not being able to speak has affected her. There have been times where is has wished she could speak or communicate better with others. By not being able to use her words to describe her feelings for many years, she shows how she feels towards others by her actions. She's learned to overcome her disability, and these days she rarely thinks of her inability to speak as disability. Instead, she thinks it's a way for her to express herself in different ways. Also with her chaotic past, she is shy and even reserved around new people. Once she sees someone isn't going to hurt or is mean, she'll warm up to the person with relative ease. Also because of her experiences, she's street smart and thinks quick on her feet. She's resourceful, clever, and can be courageous when she feels threatened.
COMPUTER APTITUDE: She's not very good at computers as she was never exposed to them much until a year ago. She can do very basic things like use word document program and the network community, though. If she needs to do something with the computer and she doesn't know how, she'll probably go to the library and look up a computer manual/guide book. So basically, not that great, but functional.
AU HISTORY:
Even though Nill is a nice, sweet-hearted girl, her past is the exact opposite. Nill doesn't know a lot about her past, or much about the first half of it. Nill was born with a congenital defect affecting her vocal chords. Her parents, who were very poor, had no money to pay for correction surgery. A child that would not be able to speak, a mute, would be considered a burden on the family. Her parents took her back from the hospital anyway, not able to give away their child at first. While poor, Nill had a somewhat happy first couple years of life. Things started to change before she reached four years old, though. Her father lost her job, and her mother had passed away due to an unknown illness (rumors went around it was suicide or someone had poisoned her). Her father got in trouble with some loan sharks, and to protect Nill he decided to drop her off at an orphanage. The orphanage was very corrupt due to a lack of government funds and donations. It didn't help the orphanage was in one of the worst neighborhoods, often neglected by the government and proper policing. The whole neighborhood was just a hotbed of crime, and no one did anything to change things. When government workers would investigate once in a blue moon, usually they were paid off to tell the orphanage was running properly. After all, most children here were labeled as damned and dying before the age of nineteen.
As a young child she spent roughly five years living in the orphanage. The orphanage required a lot of the children to do rigorous chores and there were 'bizarre', sometimes inhuman punishments for children who acted out of line. Luckily Nill behaved while in the orphanage, but she still was overworked for someone so young. At nine years old she was "adopted" by a family who seemed rather normal and even caring. It was a front, though. It wasn't a formal adoption, but an under the table sort of adoption. Nill ended up being a "house servant" to the couple, cleaning and keeping the couple's house clean. They didn't let her go to school or give her most opportunities most children had. She did try to run away, but the couple told Nill they knew her parents and her parents wanted this for her. Overall, it was very confusing for Nill, but she tried to survive and thrive in the situation.
When she was almost thirteen, a visitor to the couple's house, a man, took a great interest in Nill. This interest was not something good and it was sexual. He had a great interest in having her become a prostitute, and he paid a good amount of money to the couple. The couple agreed, selling Nill to the man. The man was leaving the country when government border agents stopped him, arresting him for drug trafficking. Nill was taken into custody, but it was hard for her to explain what had happened. She did not know how to write and read proficiently, or use sign language. Eventually her story did get told through drawings and pictures. She stayed in a special child care program run by a church. She learned how to read, write, and how to communicate with sign language. She was easily a favorite, and her story touched many hearts of the local community. She bonded most with an older boy named Haine Rammsteiner, and they taught each other many different things.
When Nill turned fourteen, the church found a suitable family for her. The family was a French couple who designed children's clothing. She does model clothing for her parent's company, but she does it happily (she also hopes to sew as well as her adopted mother). Her new family is very supportive of her, and they thought Reims Academy would help Nill live a life she never really got had full of friends and academic learning.
* I talked to the Haine player about their past history, but we decided to leave some of it vague for future ideas and whatnot.

INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE:
[text entry on the intranet]
I want to welcome all the new students here to Reims Academy. This is my first year here, and I really like it here. At first it was scary to be in such a big school like this with a lot of new people, but a lot of people are very nice here. All the teachers I have are very helpful and my new friend here are very good to me.
My name is Nill Engelhaft, and for anyone who is in grade MS3, I hope we have a class together. If any of you become lost, it's okay to ask for directions. I remember my first week here I got lost many times and was nervous about asking people around me.
LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE:
It was still weird for her to wake up in the morning in a real room like this. It was strange to hear her new friends greet her as she entered a classroom, soon gossiping about the cute boys across the room. It felt like this life wasn't hers, but at the same time it was hers. Things had changed so much since she had been rescued. Things had changed so much since she had first met Haine and the Father Bishop. Now she was going to school where she could finally get an education and live a life she was owed.
She was very appreciative of her adoptive parents for everything they had given her. They were very good, caring parents. She was worried at first on how to be a good daughter before she met them. What if they didn't like her because she couldn't sew buttons correctly? What if they didn't like her because she didn't know how to braid hair? She thought of those silly things rather than her not being able to speak. Maybe she didn't think of it because of the time she spent with Haine. He never minded her inability to talk, and he even seemed to like that about her. No, she didn't think of her inability to speak as a fault anymore. It was part of her, and if her friends like her, then that meant something had to be good about her.
Now she was a student at Reims Academy, no longer an orphan girl who felt so scared and confused. Now she felt like she could enjoy life, now she felt like she was living in a place where she felt welcomed.
