Day 14, 6/26:
Baja Tour, Day 4 - the last day :(
Short entry for this day, it was like I didn't want to waste what little time was left taking pictures.
As we left MSR in the morning (buggies again turned around and refueled), the tour guide excitedly announced that there was a big local race going on and if we hurried we'd get to watch some of it. With arms duly twisted, we proceeded to "hurry" down the mountain and across the scrub :)
First glimpse of chase/support trucks:
We pulled over and picked strategic trackside spots.
Pictures don't do it justice; these guys are moving.
After we'd had our fill of watching other people drive (and eating dust) we headed off to a spot in the road that made a perfect jump. 500 metres of fast, hardpacked scrabble up a winding, hillside road and then... LAUNCH
The airtime was pretty long. On the second jump I got the most speed of the 3 and I remember thinking "Yay I'm airborne.... wow I'm still in the air..."
It's really hard to capture a fast-moving buggy midair when the first you see it is as it crests the ramp. These don't really portray the amount of air caught very well, but they still seem to show the amount of fun had :)
Last shot in the buggy before heading back to the Horsepower Ranch :(
One more cold beer was brought to us back at HQ, then it was time to pack and get back in the bus.
We spent about 3 hours in the lineup to get back across the border.
Random shot of a sailing ship in the harbor in San Diego.
Back to a hotel in San Diego, with plans to pick up the bikes, blast down to Chula Vista to pick up my signal relay, and start the ride home in the morning.
