The difference is I stop procrastinating, do a better job of delegating time to specific tasks and ACTUALLY DOING those tasks, actively develop good habits, and keep my long-term goals in mind so that I can more actively work toward them.
I've been a mess lately. I've been missing assignments, avoiding social opportunities, playing too much Tetris Attack, skipping workouts, and in general sabotaging myself. I've been talking with one of these guys via Skype the for the past week, and he's really helped me to get out of my comfort zone socially. Now I'm trying to push myself in other areas.
i think that their whole "revolution begins with the individual" thing is total bullshit. like, it's romantic & a bit convincing... but, change really doesn't start with you. most of the time, society swallows those who are different. plato was hip to this shit for christ's sake. this isn't about changing society... obviously, it's about self-development. i'm just arguing that they're making a very dramatic & unfounded leap in saying that by changing yourself, you're, in effect, changing society. the institution is the factory of society, & the institution doesn't even consider your existence as an individual.
p.s. no one has control over anything; not even themselves. hard determinism, what what.
but, yeah. sort of a positive message, albeit delivered in an obnoxious tony robbin's sort of fashion.
You may be right. In fact, as a skeptic, I'm inclined to agree with you.
However, I can entertain an idea without accepting it. Acting as though improving myself will help the people around me, and the people around them, and eventually change the world gives me a sense of responsibility beyond myself. Perhaps I'm fooling myself, but I can still draw motivation from this.
In the end, the worst that can happen is I'll be more productive.
