So I read/plowed through Sham: How the self-help movement made America helpless, because having been extremely cynical about self-help since I was, oh, about 8, sometimes it is nice to read largely citation-free psuedo-exposes that reinforce your own prejudices. GOOD RANT. I'm another girl who was bored and unfulfilled by the softened aspects of education -- challenge is not a gendered concept, dude!

Salerno sounds like another 'Men's Rights' herald, which is not to say that men have no rights, and that in areas like family law there isn't some cause for concern at times, but I find most of that movement tends to boil down to 'I do not know who I am if I am not a gender stereotype, so stop making me question my assumptions and go make me a sammich''

You're not a prospective writer you're a WRITER darnit!!

Publication does not equal Your Badge of Writerhood.

If you write, you be a writer. And you write. So you're a writer.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is a sucka'.

I approve of your rant.

I've been running into a lot of gender issues lately; it's always hard for me to appropriately sort my thoughts on the matter because it's so nuanced and thus it's very difficult to really talk about without somebody completely misinterpreting it all... but you did a good job on it.
