Maybe the guy never did really take criticism well, maybe he was always closed to self-improvement; maybe, he simply thought he knew better, inspite of all evidence pointing to the contrary. It could simply be a case of misplaced priorities, pride before rationality.

people aren't like wine or concrete... they don't get better with age. neither do they worsen. it's very subjective.
in my mid twenties i find that all the while i have been unable to form steadfast habits or adapt to change quickly (i always thought otherwise), and that in itself is a habit that i'm finding hard to break!
