animal rights?

Isn't it cruelty if a dog is restricted to the patio of one's apartment 24/7, is made to pee and crap on the patio, never taken out for walks? This is the fate of the dog (my bad, the son as his owners prefer him being addressed) that belongs to the couple upstairs. I've never heard the dog bark (and this is no tiny chihuahua). It's a big animal (I ( Read more... )

I feel you should atleast let some animal right authorities know about it. Just a visit so the owners know how to take care of the dog properly.

Its rather sad they way they treat him.

I met the couple once, when I was moving into my apartment. They didn't seem too friendly. I doubt if they'll take the interference in good spirit. I'll find out what I can do, though.

I hate it when people claim to love animals and then treat their pets poorly. Shutting up your dog in a tiny enclosed place for days on end and not interacting with them at all is cruelty people.

There's a reason I don't have pets- I live in a (biggish, but still) apartment, and I have no time to play with him/her.

Hey, I think it does count as abuse.... that TV show "Animal Police" or something like that (it airs on Animal Planet) had charged a few people in some episodes for the same thing.

What happened after you went and talked to them, by the way?

I didn't go to them personally. Since I live in an apartment complex, approaching the management is the recommended thing to do. So I complained to our apartment secretary. She said she would either file a lease violation or call the 'humane society' on them. This was 5 days ago. I've been sick ever since and haven't followed up.

The last I noticed, they put a blanked at the place where the dog used to pee. But clever animal, completely avoids that blanket and has found a new place to pee on (which once again leads to my patio). I'll find out at the office tomorrow if they did anything at all. If not, I think I'll call ASPCA.
