That line outta Sam at the end summed it up for me:
"It had it's moments."
Was it just me, or did things go a little bit "Kids in the Hall" at the beginning there, with the slow-mo walkup and the guitar (pronounced gee-tar)?
Coven (koh-vehn) poster in the Ghostfacers lair! Oh Kripke, sometimes your references to niche movies and their documentaries in your niche show make me so gleeful.
My first thoughts, in order, on seeing Corbett: Aw! He's adorable! He has a big, earnest smile. He's gonna die, isn't he?
...is it possible to have a peyote addiction?
"Not cops just hicks."
Heh.
Oh rumbling impala engine, I've missed you!
"There's the kitchen sink."
"Copy that."
*snerk*
Wow, Sam and Dean looked larger than life in this, didn't they? And Dean looks damn fine in the light of the handhelds. ...just sayin'.
The whole death echo thing? Where in 15 handy seconds we find out what they are and that you might have to know the person to get through to them? IS THAT WHAT THEY CALL FORESHADOWING? I mean, I'm not sure, but that might come up later in the show, right? *innocent blinking*
"It's our Grand Canyon."
My heart cracked into little pieces right then. Subtle, 'specially because Sam's annoyed when he says it.
Oh Maggie, I *heart*ed you one time in this episode. When this exchange happened:
Dean: Alright, seriously. Does looking at this nightmare through that camera make you feel better or something? I mean...?"
Maggie: "Um...*tries lowering the camera* Oh...*raises camera again* Yeah. Yeah I think so.
"Is it cancer?"
"Shaddup."
Oh Dean. I've missed your manly gruff voice. Also, you have a goofy haircut, or at least goofy hair styling, at the end of the ep.
Holy overdoing the gay love conquers all thing, Batman! I mean, really? I loved Corbett in the short time I knew him, but the whole "I love you" thing from Ed wasn't necessary.
Corbett did teach us something - about how to die stupidly and then be used in a line about gay love piercing the veil to save the day. That whole bit made me *headdesk*. I love the idea, but did it need to be said aloud?
Also - did Corbett need to die that stupidly? Ghosty took Sam from a room fulla people. Corbett didn't need to have gone off on his own. I guess I'm saying that I would have preferred that, because I liked Corbett.
OK, Sam's line about how the group manages to "..honor Corbett's memory while grossly exploiting the manner of his death" makes me feel better. A little.
This ep would be a lot more fun for me if it hadn't been the first one after a long waiting period. The swearing and handheld shooting are both plusses for me, but I wanted more SamnDean interaction after such a long waiting period.
Random bits that worked for me: Corbett with his audible *gulp* at describing Ed's beard, Dad's face when he opened the garage door.
Next week, though. "How could you do it?"
Awesome.
