+ When: August 30th.
+ Where: Hinoto's house.
+ Who: Hinoto (
hime_no_yume) and Sure (
candidate02).
+ Summary: Sure goes to help Hinoto out.
Hinoto sighed as she stared at the white electronic device currently on her lap. Perhaps it was a good thing it randomly appeared with her person here. However she did not see this happen. Fate did have strange ways of working. Her eyes saddened as she realized she was sick, a small sound coming from her throat, but more in the way or a hack. If she could speak she was sure her throat wouldn't work. It felt so dry... This world... she didn't like it. It was cold... She shouldn't have let sure come to help her. He was to kind... what if... she held back a tear and shook her head. No use crying over it... Sure would hate her just like Kamui did in the end anyway.
It hadn't taken Sure long to find the bookstore Hinoto had mentioned, though he didn't really know how he'd manage to find HER. All the houses looked the same, and she'd said she wasn't able to move.... Still, he'd told her he'd come, and he'd do his best. He started to make his way down the street, hoping there would be some way of knowing which house was hers.
He needn't have worried; he soon saw a woman sitting on the porch of one of the houses, and made his way to the porch steps.
"Hinoto?"
She nodded, pulling her kimono tighter to herself before looking up. ~I am.. You are... Sure...~ She offered a meek smile, her lips making a small upward motion, smiling before she leaned over, covering her mouth, though very little noise came out. Even for a cough.
~Thank you for coming for me... I am sorry for being such an inconvenience for you, or making you feel obligated. I apologize.~
Sure smiled at her, though the expression was tainted with concern. "It's no problem. Not at all." He started up the porch steps. "Are you...sick?"
Hinoto nodded. ~Only a little... I have barely been out of the basement for a while. My body is just not... used to the germs of the outside yet. I apologize.~ She was starting to feel like a burden, her lips no longer matching her words very well.
Sure hesitated at her words, not really sure what to make of them, then knelt in front of her. "How long has it been since you got here?"
He was very tall, she noticed and shook her head. ~... A few weeks...nearly a month I think. Longer perhaps?~ Hinoto nodded and looked down. ~I should be used to being alone, I really am sorry for placing this curse upon you..~
Sure sighed a little and decided to just ignore the last bit. "Have you been outside on the porch the whole time?"
~Yes... I can not move.. Except my arms but... I did not feel like pulling myself across the ground. Not that I could even if I wished to...~ Hinoto offered another meek smile and tilted her head. ~Is your hand alright?~
Sure shrugged a little, smiling back. "It's still there, and that's something. The arm it's attached to still moves just fine, anyway. Let me take you inside."
~That would be... ni-- ~ She leaned over, another small, nearly inaudible, coughing fit took her over, her body trembling slightly from it. No... She didn't like the outside at all.
Sure waited patiently until her coughing had subsided, then took her laptop and set it to the side--he'd come back for it later--before picking her up and carrying her inside. He set her down gently on the couch in the front room, then went back outside to retrieve her laptop before coming back in and closing the door behind him.
!! Hinoto blinked at being suddenly picked up, looking up at him curiously. At the feel of something soft beneath her she understood, and let out a breathe, neglecting to move her lips. ~I... thank you Sure. I am truly sorry.~
"There really isn't anything to be sorry for. You're not exactly heavy." He looked at her quietly, then remembered her mention of being dehydrated and went to the kitchen to get her some water.
~Oh? I suppose I wouldn't be.! She smiled and watched him go off before looking down. She really should tell him to leave...
Who knew how much longer until that her came out? Until that her gave him a false prediction that led to his demise. It had happened before.
Luckily, in the kitchen, he found glasses in one of the cupboards and was soon back in the front room with a glass half full.
He sat down on the couch, a little away from her. "Should I help you drink it?" The questioning didn't come out sounding belittling, just helpful. He thought so, at least.
~Oh? No I should be able to drink it on my own just fine, but thank you for your kindness.~ She bowed slightly and reached out, taking the glass from him, sipping it slowly and timed, despite her thirst.
Sure watched her drink, looking for any sign of difficulty. He really wasn't sure what all he could do for her, but he had offered to help, and he would stand by that. At least she didn't seem to be totally helpless, and that was a good sign.
She blinked, and looked at him. ~You don't have to be that worried... I am helpless in the sense I can not move.. but drinking is simple enough...~ Hinoto had dream gaze hard to be able to see what the other looked like in the first place.
Sure nodded, relaxing a little. "All right." He paused for a moment, trying to think of a tactful way to ask his question, before deciding to just be straightforward. "How is it you're talking?"
~What do you mean?~ she was pretty sure her mouth movement only faltered slightly...Oh! her throat was supposed to be... She's never had to speak parched before. ~I see.. I made a mistake. I apologize. In my world I am a dream seer. While I can't speak truly, I can... allow you to hear my thoughts I suppose.~
Sure nodded. "There have been people like that, where I come from. Kind of." He frowned a little, wondering if he should try to explain about EX, but decided it was more or less irrelevant to the conversation. "What is a dream seer?"
~It is a person who tells the future from dreams. Though this ability is limited here. It seems the gods disapprove of such a feat~ Hinoto looked down sadly. ~Most of us are born with incapability. I, myself, can not speak, hear, walk, or see.~
Sure nodded a little. "Then you must be using that ability to know what I'm saying to you." It made sense, he thought.
She nodded and sighed. ~Yes. It's just a little exhausting, but not enough for me to mind doing it.~
"Ah. I'm sorry it's hard on you." He couldn't really think of much else to say. He didn't have much experience with this sort of problem.
Hinoto shook her head and smiled. ~It is not your fault at all. There are other forces.~
"What do you mean?"
~... I can not tell you.~ She looked at him apologetically and smiled.
He blinked, then smiled back and shrugged. "Alright. That's fair."
Hinoto nodded and then held out her hands. ~I can attempt to read a part of your fortune, if you wish? ~
Sure hesitated, then just smiled at her. "That's not necessary." He hoped she wouldn't be offended.
That was the first time the offer had ever been refused but she nodded, folding her hands back onto her lap. ~Any reason why?~
Sure continued to smile. "I've spent most of my life being pretty certain of my future. I know it's probably changed now, but...I'm not so sure I'm ready to know what it will be at this point."
~I see. Aright then.~ She returned the smile and bowed lightly. ~I respect that.~
"Thanks." He was quiet for a moment. "Um...who is Kamui? You mentioned him." He gestured at her laptop with one hand, to indicate where.
~Kamui... the Kamui I mentioned there... if the Kamui who can save our world. But now... I have lost his trust.~ Her face saddened quickly as she stared at her hands now instead.
"I'm sorry." It didn't seem like a very adequate thing to say. "Can I ask how?"
~I-I fed him lies about his future. I didn't know I--- No. I can't believe I did. I do not want to... do that to anyone else... so as long as I can help it... I will not lie.~ She sighed sadly and looked away from Sure.
"Well...that sounds like a pretty good choice." He looked around the room. "I guess life's pretty hard on you."
~it is my own fault...~ She nodded in agreement with herself, sighing.
He looked at her. "Maybe. Maybe not."
~How is it not? I hurt so many people from lying.~ Daisuke, Kamui, and probably many others.
"Well, as committed as you are now to telling the truth, it's hard to believe that you would lie intentionally. And I didn't mean just that."
She looked at him, slightly shocked, though looked right back down. ~I--- I did though... I'm pretty sure I did at least...~
He was quiet for a little while, thinking that over, before replying, "Maybe he was saved by coming here then. It's not a great place, but it can't be too much worse than whatever would have happened to him where you come from. So maybe things worked out alright."
She nodded and clenched her kimono, forcing herself not to cry right now. ~I-- I am glad for this as well! Kamui can be... free for a little while, but he does not forgive me. And I know it is my fault... ~
"Your fault he doesn't forgive you? I always thought of forgiveness as being a personal matter. If he won't forgive you, isn't that more his problem than yours?" He smiled gently. "I mean, you apologized to him. Under the circumstances, there isn't much more you can do."
~ A-ah... I...~ She looked at him, allowing tears to fall lightly. This boy was so kind to her. And he didn't even know her. Why? ~Th--- thank you.. y-you're... kind...~
His smile turned a little embarrassed. "You seem like you could use a little of that."
~Maybe... my younger sister showed kindness in... an odd way...~
"...Do you miss your sister?"
~... Yes... I do. ~ She looked down. ~She... she was the only one who cared about my well being honestly enough. She wanted to prove my predictions wrong... so the corrupt would stop using me...~
"That...sounds a little complicated."
~It is but! She means well really... not matter what she may seem like... she is not... as strong as me. So she can walk and see...~
"Ah. So...she was taking care of you. Right?" He was a little out of his depth here.
~... No... she is... on the other side of our conflict in my world...~
"Ah." He wasn't sure what to say to that, so he smiled. "I think it's all a little over my head."
Hinoto giggled lightly and nodded. ~She is much taller then me...~
Sure blinked, then laughed.
Hinoto smiled and nodded. ~I am glad you are laughing. I just wish I can see someone else besides Kamui from my world sometimes."
Sure's smile was apologetic. "Unfortunately, that I can't do. Whatever I can do for you, though, I will."
~You are... I do not want to hurt you, alright?~
"I know. I trust that you won't."
~... ~ she looked at him for s moment, then nodded. ~And I... will try my best to make sure I do not...~
He smiled. "I can stay here with you, if you want."
~!! O-Oh?~ the offer was kind. Really it was! But how could she... she couldn't! No... But. Yet, she wanted to. ~I-if you want to. I would like the company.~
Sure smiled. "Yeah, me too."
~Sure...~
He raised his eyebrows a little. "Yes?"
~Thank you. A lot! really...~
He grinned. "It's not a problem. We could both use the company, and it'll make it easier for me to help you. Just don't be hesitant to tell me when you want me to do something."
~ I understand. Thank you.~ she bowed lightly and smiled at him.
"I'll just go back later and get a few things from where I've been staying." It could wait though.
~Alright. You should tell me... something about yourself then.~
He blinked. "Uh...like what?"
~About your world...~
"Oh...well, everyone lives in space." He pointed upward unnecessarily. "In colonies mostly."
~I see. That sounds interesting... go on...~
"Well...there's this life form called Victim. I don't really know what they are, or where they came from, but we have to fight them off, to protect the planet from them." He smiled a little. "We were actually in the middle of a battle maneuver when I ended up here."
~ That's horrible!! I hope your world will be alright! ~
He continued to smile despite her reaction. "I don't doubt that it will be, eventually. The people fighting...we've got EX on our side."
~... You can smile in utter reassurance so easily...~
"It's taken a lot of practice."
~... You're that kind too...~ she nodded and reached out, slightly blindly and touched his face. ~... I can tell... your face is tense.~ She smiled and pulled away.
His expression softened a little. "Most people can't tell the difference between a real smile and a fake one. Or if they can, they don't bother. Back home, it's easy for my peers to get downhearted or agitated, and since I'm not much of a fighter, really, I figure this is the best way I can help."
~I am glad you do then. If it's to help someone then... I'm glad you do. But do not do it all the time...~
He cocked his head, confused. "Why not?"
~... Hiding your pain can be dangerous.~
He looked at her for a minute without smiling, then nodded. "Yeah. You're right." The smile came back quickly. "Luckily, I'm usually genuinely in a good mood, so it probably won't be much of an issue."
~ !! ... Really? That's good then...~
"Yeah. Maybe it'll be contagious."
~... I hope so. ~
Sure nodded. He did too.
