read this and comment:

"Bill Cosby went off on another tirade against the black community, telling a room full of activists that black children are running around not knowing how to read or write and going nowhere."

i think there's a lot of truth to what he's saying (and i certainly admire that he has the guts to say it); ( Read more... )

i suppose it's a nice bout of reality for the black community...but the thing that i think sucks is how others are pitted with the generalizations he speaks of. people who are educated and well spoken aren't acknowledged. and even though it is something that needs to be said inorder to make progress, it still can be interpreted as "proof" for racist comments.
blah.

excuse me good sir, but i believe you missed the point entirely.

think of mtv, vh1, BTE or whatever the fuck that channel is called. rich men, yes, black men, rappers driving their silver and chrome mercedes down the streets of beverly hills decked in "ice" and "blind bling" have ebough money to afford a million dollar mansion but still don't understand that the word "ask" has an "s" in it.

combine that with the millions of little kids listening to them thinking it's cool to sound stupid because that's how you do it in the "hood"

while he isn't flat out saying that these issues only concern the black community, he doesn't touch on the fact that these problems apply to people of other races too. there are so many uneducated white people (and others) who speak with incorrect grammar and use slang terms that have nothing to do with the slang that has become associated with black people. and when he moves to condemn the many black men who are unsatisfied with their lives and jobs and subsequently abuse their wives, he makes it appear as though he hasn't even taken into consideration that this problem occurs within many other races as well. although he raises a valid point, the fact of the matter is that the same problems exist within many other races, making it unclear as to why it should be so particularly alarming for black people.
