Travelling by coach was never my ideal form of transport. Rows upon rows of drab, unspectacular scenery rush past, lulling one to slumber. Well...hmm...I think the Sun Yat Sen mausoleum was a kind of political thingy for Chiang Kai Shek to consolidate his power..or something like that. Can't remember.

Well, I think at that point that Chiang Kai Shek and the guomindang were becoming very unpopular because the gmd was really authoritarian, so it launched this whole series of reforms to portray itself as the national unifier of the country. So, like..he brought Sun's body up from Guangdong or somewhere where it was originally buried, and built the mausoleum in his honour. Cos Sun is the 'founding father of modern China', so I guess he tried to curry favour the Chinese people! Hee hee...kudos to Prof Lean of Modern Chinese History II! Hahaha..
