I acquired some classic hardbacks from my late neighbor's estate sale, including Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Cooper's Last of the Mohicans, and collected works by de Moupassant and Hawthorne . It's a weird feeling, having something treasured by someone barely a month dead.

I suppose I should rewind a bit and explain. )

Here's the great thing, though: that woman made a huge impact on you. She changed someone's life. If you can touch one person like that during your lifetime, it hasn't been a waste. This isn't sappy BS; this is fact.

You were both bettered by knowing one another, and that's all any of us can really hope for.
