[he leans back, his grip on his pipe tightening a little. Not enough to break the stem, but enough, just enough, to make his fingertips numb against the solid cylinder. It was... painful, how Doumeki seems to have gotten himself in more trouble in this world.]
[he laughs a little quietly, the sound ragged at the edges. Desperation clawed at his chest and twisted his gut and he felt tired. The sofa he was sitting on seemed to swallow him whole, and yet he gripped the arm rest tightly.
it... hadn't been on purpose. hadn't been. but most deaths never happened on purpose.
Doumeki. Doumeki. This situation suited neither of them, and Watanuki squeezed his hand. If he held on hard enough, he could feel himself holding on to Doumeki's wrist, being guided through tangled forests and messed-up apartment buildings.
He took a deep breath.
The idiot... shouldn't have had to go out. When Watanuki found him, he'd give him the lecture of his life while leading him home by the wrist, and there would be shoga-yu and a warm meal waiting.]
We can get him back again. Maybe not like the last time, but we will.
