Character: Bo Jones
Series: Lost Girl
Character Age: 28
Job: Fairy Godmother
Canon: It's hard out there for a succubus. It's harder when you're a succubus who doesn't know who or what she is. That was Bo for the first twenty-eight years of her life, struggling with a hunger she didn't understand and which left her fleeing city after city, leaving behind a string of smiling dead lovers without even knowing why she wasn't normal. It wasn't until her kills caught the attention of the local police, and more importantly, the local fae that she finally ran head long into the answer. Somehow, against all odds and tradition, Bo was fae without a clan, without allegiance to either the dark or light. And despite pressure from both sides, Bo chose to remain a free agent by becoming a private investigator-working with both sides and protecting humans while she seeks to unravel the mystery of her origins at last.
Bo is a survivor, resilient, impulsive and stubborn. Despite being a succubus, she does not use sex to solve all her problems: reasoning with people is awesome, but when that fails violence and drinking heavily are also viable options. She manages to remain open to people despite her past, tempering her interactions with both sympathy and a teasing, sometimes snarky humor. Sometimes it is hard for her because of her past, because she's a succubus raised with a conscience, because she does regret what her circumstances forced her to do, but she isn't about to waste the opportunity to start again and to learn to control her powers. She doesn't intend to be alone again, and with things finally starting to come together, the fact that she might not have to be keeps her personality buoyant.
Sample Entry:
[The normal sounds of the Mess Hall are interrupted by decisive footfalls as a confident woman steps first onto a bench, then up onto one mostly empty table where she can be seen clearly over the sparse off-hours crowd. Her shoulders squared, chin up, she looks like she means business… but she hesitates a moment, as though she's not entirely sure what to say. Oh, no wait, got it:]
Normally adults get to come in and tell kids that there's no such thing as the monster under the bed or the tooth fairy. It's actually something a lot of people try to avoid-I think it's supposed to feel like spoiling their fun. Well, I for one would love to be able to tell you there's no such thing. The problem is, I have no idea. There might not be a tooth fairy, but if there is, she probably got that name because she has a whole lot of teeth, not by hiding quarters under pillows. And I would tell you that, but from the looks of this place, the fact that there are real monsters and magic wouldn't come as a surprise anymore. I'd say the corpses going out for a stroll were already sort of a dead giveaway.
I know I'm rambling now, but there is a point, I promise. I am not your fairy godmother. I'm not anybody's fairy godmother. Magic and myths and monsters, oh my, but I have never seen anything like that kind of family cartoon type of fairy tale in real life. No wishes, no glass slippers, I can't even turn a pumpkin into pie, and definitely no singing bippity boppity boo. What I am is here, and as long as I'm here, I am willing to help if anyone needs it. I can't promise miracles, but it is my job-my real job. I'm a private investigator, and I'm… well. It's a little strange to say it to so many humans at once. Sort of like coming out of the broom closet.
Deep breath, and here goes nothing, right?
I am not a fairy godmother, but I am fae. Fairies are one of the fae, but they aren't the only type. Fae aren't all pots of gold and lucky charms, and believe me, even the ones who are, aren't. A lot of them are like your zombie-look-alikes, or man eating plants, or whatever that thing you have up in the silo is. Most of them are just people trying to get by, but a little more special. I don't know what game they're playing here, but I will get to the bottom of it. Midwest Americaville is new, but if it's anything like back home, this is something I can do. I can talk to fae and figure out how to deal with them. On a second look, they don't seem so bad. They just wear rotting corpses around.
Anyway the most important thing is that I'm on your side, even if it means having to get some of their side on my shoes.
