Information about this character's different 'verses.

'Verse Name: General/Canon/Sandbox
For: sixwordstories, smuttysws, memebells, marvelsandbox, journals
Name: Jean Grey
Code Name: Marvel Girl
Age: 22
Location: Xavier mansion, Westchester, NY
Mutation: Telekinesis - Jean is able to move objects as large as a small car, move people, fly for sustained periods, create invisible forcefields and barriers, and can create concussive blasts (which she can't control that well yet, because of past experiences). Her grip on her telekinesis, aside from concussive blasts, is fairly high, though the ability continues to grow. She must train constantly to keep up with it.

Telepathy - Jean's first ability was actually telepathy, but because of her past history with it, she has been glad for the block Professor Xavier put in place all those years ago. The level of her telepathy has started to override that block, though, and she is beginning to hear other's thoughts once more. She can also invade the minds of others, but all of this is relatively out of her control, as she begins working on getting a handle on her telepathy.

Omega Level Mutant - The limits of her ability are only as far as she can handle them, and there is no ceiling in sight. She is capable of immeasurable power, eventually.

Backstory: Jean was born and raised in upstate New York. Her abilities presented themselves when she was eight, fairly early for the X-Gene to activate; unfortunately, it was due to a traumatic event. She watched her friend Annie get hit by a car, and found herself locked inside of her friend's mind, hearing the girl's final thoughts.

The event left her catatonic for three years, unable to stop the constant barrage of other people's thoughts invading her mind, unable to stop her thoughts from projecting. Episodes of her telepathy overpowering her and causing her to unleash a destructive concussive blast in every direction around her were not uncommon. Her parents, unable to find help anywhere else, turned to Professor Charles Xavier.

The girl Xavier found was a hollow shell, consumed completely by every thought around her, her own psyche so far depressed that he could hardly find her. When he did, she was locked into a constant replay of Annie's death, keeping that telepathic channel wide open. He pulled Jean from that state, and advised her parents that she should be taken to his school in Westchester. To prove that he could help her, Xavier, with Jean's full permission and cooperation, placed a block in her mind to force the telepathy into dormancy, and allow her telekinesis to take center stage. Finally, with her mind silenced of everything but her own thoughts, Jean could be herself once more.

She left her parents at age eleven, and has only been back for visits. She grew by leaps and bounds, becoming one of the founding X-Men. She has been with Xavier for eleven years, and feels that she has found a home there.

**When denoted as Sandbox, she is currently with the Avengers, not X-Men.

Personality: Jean is a caretaker. She likes to make people comfortable, be sure their needs are taken care of, be that caring ear for someone to bend when they're having a problem. She's quiet in her own time, and likes more to spend time with good friends, or at home reading a book.

She can be outgoing, and will jump at the chance to act like a kid. She missed out on a lot of her childhood, and realizes that fact. Jean has begun to know, explicitly, what people think of her, and she has had to force herself not to care. Thus, she's capable of being completely free with her behavior, no matter how dorky she's being.

She's dedicated. Despite working with the X-Men, she has finished an undergraduate degree in psychology, and will be working on her masters degree, when she finds the time. She has taken on more time in training new mutants as they come into Xavier's, helping them to gain control of their mutations and let go of the stigma they may have gained outside the walls of the school. She's ferociously loyal to every single person she loves, and even some that she might not even like. When she decides to do something, there's little faltering in that decision.

Jean is trusting; perhaps too trusting at times. She believes wholeheartedly in anyone close to her, even if they aren't who they seem. That trust is beginning to waver with some, as she has been able to see the true side of people, most of the time when she's not even trying.

She is honest, as well. If she can spare someone's feelings by withholding the truth, she's damned well going to, but if asked point blank about something, she will do her best not to lie.

'Verse Name: Shifting Paradigms

Location: Xavier mansion, Westchester, NY
Age: 22
History: [Early history remains canon, until she ended up locked inside of her mind]

From the age of eight, Jean was left catatonic, trapped inside of her own mind. She couldn't pull herself out of it, and ended up so buried in her own psyche that no one could find her. She couldn't speak, move, do anything to take care of herself. By the time she was eleven, her parents couldn't take it anymore. They couldn't find help, and the more and more frequent overloads Jean was having were destroying their lives.

They put her in an mental facility, under guardianship, until she turned eighteen, when she would be evaluated as to whether or not she would become a permanent resident of the facility.

Jean might have been locked inside her own mind, but that didn't stop the constant stream of noise, and throwing in the thoughts of the clinically insane made things worse. Her telekinetic overloads meant she was kept in solitary confinement. The walls didn't stop the influx, though.

It was when she was seventeen that someone finally came for her. Charles Xavier, alerted to her presence by a mutual friend that knew what Jean was, came to see her. He found her trapped in her own mind, and was the first person to understand what she was, why she was the way she was. He pulled her out of that horrible memory loop of the death of Annie, and placed the strongest blocks he could share in her mind, to knock back the uncontrolled telepathy. In less than a week, Jean was no longer catatonic, and she could think again.

Her thoughts weren't exactly normal anymore, though. The damage had been done. Her own personality came roaring back, that caring, sweet, nurturing person she'd always been, but there are periods when every thought she heard and locked away in the eidetic memory center of her telepathy comes out, and she's anything but sweet and nurturing.

The five years she has spent with Xavier have led to Jean gaining control. He's all but held her mind together for her. He's been her savior, and she owes him a debt she feels she can never repay. As she's gained more control, she's been able to see his own damage, and she's been slowly working toward him being able to open up to her, so she can help him in any way. Recently, their relationship has taken a turn into something uncharted, and Jean is, surprisingly, unconcerned and unworried.
