Finally catching up with Oscar Nominees

Mar 23, 2013 17:47

I took a trip east this week and on the plane I had the chance to catch up with movies I was really wanting to see, but hadn't yet had the opportunity. Having previously said that I didn't see the brilliance in Jennifer Lawrence's performance, I'm now going to further that statement by saying that Emmanuelle Riva was grossly overlooked (robbed).

I'm soooo behind on movie viewing! Thank you for your reviews; they give me a place to start as I explore what will be on HBO soon (I'm sure).

Love the license plate note. lol

I still have to see Lincoln, but these three films have restored my faith in 2012 film making.

Hitchcock? That's a movie I need to see.

I just finished the book Perks of Being a Wallflower and liked it so much I'm wanting to see the movie. I hear the transition to film was a very good one, not the usual "the book was better" type of movie.

I think you'd love Hitchcock. it specifically follows the
Period during which he was making Psycho.

I'm not a huge reader these days, but I will give Perks a go if it see the book. The screenplay was excellent, though I can't vouch for how accurate the adaption was.

I'm looking forward to all these movies, especially Amour. Is there a bacKstory to the Che 1200 license plate? I only think of Che Guevara, but is there something else?

Amour practically had me in tears with the short snippets I saw during the Oscars. It was such a well acted film, and the key was in the subtlety.

The CHE 1200 license plate was one of those continuity errors in QAF. It first appeared on David's car in season one, and showed up on Brian's Corvette in Season 3. I got the same number plate made up for my own car. I've had an odd habit of reading number plates since I was little, so I notice these things in movies & TV.

I'd forgotten about the continuity error, but remember when you got your plate. I think you showed us a photo of it. :) I just looked up the movie Perks of Being a Wallflower and found out it is filmed around Pittsburgh which explains the tag. It is used in the film industry as needed when filming is done in Pennsylvania! Now, anytime a movie is filmed in Pennsylvania, I am going to be on the lookout for that tag since obviously the movie's props person would be looking for all PA props available for use. I wonder where these props are kept? Do you think there is a film company that specializes in props that are state-specific? I've never thought of any of this before. Hmm. Now, I want to go back and rewatch The Next Three Days and the last Batman movie, both of which had Pittsburgh scenes to see if I can spot the tag!
