Omg, I am so tired I cannot tell you. I had a very busy weekend and seemed to not get to bed before 3am every night and wake up fairly early every morning

OMG! That is about as awesome as it is possible to be! Thank you! If I weren't more asleep than awake, I would have something more intelligent to say. But I'm too tired to think, so I'll just be sitting here, staring at this and squeeing rather loudly...
People have been making the "Childbirth is a wonderful and natural experience, native women* give birth in the fields and then go back to work, and children should be welcomed into the world with whale songs and finger cymbals not TRAUMATISED by hospital surroundings" argument has been going on as long as I can remember and probably before. Oddly, you'll even find people who have given birth in the finger cymbal camp, and you would think they would know better. (In fairness, it's also true that hospital births up until quite recently were pretty barbaric and gave little thought to the mother. But things have improved, or so I am told, not having given birth myself. I just listen to the horror stories and go "Nope, not doing that

Having had one hospital birth and one not, I am very very very in favor of the not. The plan had always been for us to have a third, the idea being that the first would be in hospital, the second birthing center and the third at home. In the end my body did not agree (there were 3 pregnancies, so it got that part anyway, I guess). I was all in favor of my friend doing the birthing center, when word came down that she was being moved to the hospital I knew the chance of her getting a c-section was pretty inevitable. *sigh* But I've seen pictures of her, so I know that she's okay. And the baby looks lovely (all section babies are pretty since they skip the being squished by the birth canal part) and even though the poor boy's been saddled with four last names and no first, I consider it on balance to be a win

Aww, thank you for worrying. I'm seeing my doctor in a few weeks, perhaps he'll help? Sometimes it's my own stupidity (I don't go to sleep until very late, then get up really early) but lots of times it's like last night, where I went to bed at a reasonable time (for me, anyway, it was midnight), but then I was up at two something and again at five something, and then my alarm goes off at six. So even when I do go to sleep, I don't sleep.
And as you say you are perpetually sleep deprived as well, I shall give your advice right back to you; get some sleep. Otherwise I'll wind up not sleeping worrying about you! ;-)
Not to worry for me! I just relented and set my alarm clock late for this morning. What the heck--it's Saturday. I'll abuse myself via alarm on Monday. :P
I really, really know what you mean about not being able to sleep for worry. Insomnia is the worst. I don't know if it will help you, or if it's practicable for you with another person in bed, but by now it's almost impossible for me to sleep without either a book on tape or a TV show running--it helps a lot to engage the part of my brain that wants to work on things instead of letting me sleep, especially if I use stories/TV I've heard/seen lots before (though for tougher nights it might not hurt to listen to something new, *then* something old). If you've got someone else you don't want to wake up, you can use headphones, too... I know it's kind of pedestrian advice, but it helps me a lot. I tend to lose sleep when for some reason I can't use those methods.
