Honeymoon, Day 3 - July 4th, 2006

First things first - the wedding photos are up at my Flickr account.

Ok, so, when we last left our heroes, Becky had wimped out on going to the Magic Kingdom until 4 AM. So, sleep it was! And sleep we did. We got up around 11, and after getting ready, headed over to the Grand Ceremonial House (Lobby) of the hotel in order to check out the shops. Wasn't a whole lot there that we wanted to purchase, so we moved on to the Kona Cafe for lunch. As was the trend of the vaca, I had a lovely seafood soup as my appetizer. After lunch (and some more spectacular desserts), we headed back to our room and just watched some TV for a while - hey, if you've got a flat and wide screen, use it, eh? Around 4 or so, we headed over to Downtown Disney, which consists of a shopping area, Pleasure island, and a kind of indoor theme park called 'Disney Quest'. The shopping was lovely, there was another really nice art store, in which we bought a cool book written by the head imagineer, John Hench, who did a lot of design for things like space mountain. The other real shopping highlight was a giant lego store, with an area that was just spare lego parts in bins on the wall (see the above-linked pictures, please!) And STILL, we did not buy anything!

We had dinner down there at Planet Hollywood, which is in the shape of a giant (you guessed it) planet. What I remember most about that meal was them playing Gnarls Barkley while we were there - now it always takes me back :P. After dinner, it was on to Disney Quest, which was pretty interesting. We played in this neato virtual-reality comic-book game thing, complete with big funky helmets with video screens inside, and swords in hand. I pwn3ed, but our team wasn't able to beat the final boss, alas! They had a lot of old-school arcade games in there, so we played some Donkey Kong, and some skee-ball, and this really cool game which involved ping-ponging lazers back and forth. Danny pwn3d me on that, so I guess we're even :P.

We headed back to the hotel after that, to prepare for some fireworks. We mozyed out to the beach at close to sunset, joining a small crowd of people, yet we were able to sit with a completely-unobstructed view of the big ol' lake. While we were watching the beautiful sunset, a strange train of floating screens came out across the lake. It was not until it was time for the fireworks that we discovered they were not only going to light up with flags, but that they were speakers, so that we would all be privy to the accompanying music!! Bestill my heart!

Now, anyone who has been to Disney knows that their fireworks are really something to behold. Well, I ask you, what's better than one fireworks display?

That's right. Two. Simeltaneous!! One was coming from the park itself, and the second from a small island in the middle of the lake. A really spectacular show, especially when they asked people to stand for the National Anthem, and I saw thousands of people standing all around this huge lake - beautiful. A fourth that will be very hard to top!

After the fireworks, it was time...for the mighty volcano slide! But of course, I had to have a Pina Colava first. The only bartender who ever asked for ID, and we didn't have it on us - luckily, he was a cool dude and took us on our word :) Once we waited for for some of the kiddies to head out of the pool, we headed in to test our mettle. We met a nice guy and his daugher up top, who worked on calming Danny down - good thing his shorts were already wet! It's hard to describe a water slide, except to say that it was really fun. I went fast. My top didn't fly off.

And now, a preview for day 4: MGM Studios! Indy! Darth! Big Honkin' Dragon! Stay tuned...

P.S. If I was looking at your LJ/Photos on Flickr, I'D comment on them. Y'know, just sayin'.
