The banshee, or traditionally, the bean-sidhe, is an Irish spirit that cries for a person of her family when they are approaching death. It's complete mythology, but it is an entertaining one.

[ooc; And cue Tempe with the answer to all questions about mythology.]

I--uhm, know what a banshee is. I've lived in Ireland all my life. I was referring to who my sister had dubbed the banshee.

A lot of people still believe in her though. My mum still does.

I wasn't certain about that. It's difficult to judge how a question is phrased online, without the subtlety that speech gives.

The belief in such fantastical beings is illogical. There's no scientific proof of the banshee's existence. I mean no offense to your mother; it simply doesn't make sense.

That's perfectly understandable.

Some Irish are brought up on folklore. My mum was. She grew up rather poor and her grandmother passed the time by telling her Irish folklore.
