house of leaves, mark z. danielewski.

i am really curious to know what you would think of it. i normally like to recommend books that are far off the beaten path, and this has been passed around and around and around. but, everytime i have a discussion with someone about the book, they usually have an understanding that is so much different than mine. it's long, but it will probably be the most involved book you've ever read. i am usually weary of things with cult status, but, i think this deserves it.

same for everything is illuminated, by johnathan safran foer. everyone has read it, but, it's controversial. plus, you should read it before the movie comes out in november or december.

or, art and lies by jeanette winterson. actually, anything by jeanette winterson. you guys have such a similar way of writing.

i love the bluest eye, i think that's my favorite book by morrison.

i give up, i can't recommend books. i have to go by authors. honore de balzac is amazing (pere goriot, eugenie de grandet) and camus too, but i suspect you might have read them already. ayn rand (atlas shrugged), henry james (portrait of a lady), dostoevsky, t.s. eliot (the wasteland)..

i hear einstein's dreams by alan lightman is lovely, but i haven't been able to read it yet.

'life of pi' by yann martel.
'the philosophy of andy warhol' by andy warhol.
'devotions upon emergent occasions and death's duel' by john donne.
'the curious incident of the dog in the night time' by mark haddon.
'nickel and dimed: on (not) getting by in america' by barbara ehrenreich.
'the time traveler's wife' by audrey niffenegger.
'middlesex' by jeffrey eugenides.
'life and times of michael k' by j. m. coetzee.
'sun also rises' by ernest hemingway.

after all that heavy reading:
'me talk pretty one day' by david sedaris.

and finally, it's funny that you should ask this because just this morning, i was at the library and i came across the perfect book for you:
'buttons' by diana epstein and millicent safro.
