✢ The Character
Character Name: Johnny Storm (The Human Torch)
Fandom: Marvel/Fantastic Four (Movies)
Canon Point: After Rise of the Silver Surfer
Age: 23

Appearance: Johnny stands at 6'1, toned and athletic, mainly due to his extreme sports hobbies. Short dirty blonde hair is rounded out by blue eyes, matched with a smug grin or smirk. He enjoys wearing dressy casual, but when given the opportunity, has no problem pulling out the full flash of pomp and ceremony.

Abilities / Powers:
  • Heat Absorption - his body is covered by flaming plasma that protects him from flames and heat. He can easily absorb fire and explosions.
  • Flight - As the density of his body changes, Johnny’s body becomes lighter than air, giving him the capabilities of flight. He is also extremely maneuverable. The faster he goes, the shorter his limit becomes. At normal speed (about fifty air miles per hour) he should be able to fly for a half-hour, a distance of twenty-five miles.
  • Fire Control - With his flames, Johnny can create shapes and objects out of flame. He can also control any fire within his range of vision no matter how it formed. Johnny can also control which parts of his body he has in flame in order to touch someone or something that he doesn’t want to burn.
  • Super Speed - The Human Torch can easily break the speed of sound while in flight.
  • Energy Output - The plasma field around Johnny’s body produces intense flame which can be raised and lowered in temperature. The heat can easily dissipate most projectiles.
  • Blast Power - The Human Torch can create streams or balls of flame and use them as projectiles. Special attacks include the Nova Flame, a multi-directional attack capable of over 1,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit and the Nova Heat, an offensive beam of heat rivaling the heat of a normal star.

Inventory: His uniform/costume under a pair of designer jeans, long-sleeved tshirt, sports jacket, designer sunglasses, boots. He'll have his wallet, his blackberry, gum,

Personality: Cocky, arrogant, selfish and full of bravado; these are words one would use to describe Johnny Storm - the nice words, anyway. Johnny and his sister, Sue, lost their parents at a young age, and as a result, was never fully shown true discipline or control. He was a gifted kid, smart for his age. Unfortunately, without the proper guidance and discipline, he never full attained the level of intelligence he could have achieved, leading him to undercompensate in terms of intellectualism; though he has moments of surprising clarity and insight when pushed to think for himself.

He can be selfish and egotistical, and he's willing to admit to that. His world revolves very much around himself and his needs. He can be selfless in the right scenario, but that rarely presents itself. With life as it is for him, he exists as a spokesperson for one of the most popular franchises in the world - heroes. Superheroes, to be precise. He's the face of the Four, willing to whore himself out to every commercial deal and sponsor request that comes their way. The rest of the team considers him a child, and in a lot of ways, he is. He never fully grew up, and is only just coming to terms with the adult concept of having to deal with consequences for his actions. As a role model, he's a little fail, preferring to flaunt his more spectacular irresponsible behavior because, hey, it's a rush. Always ready with a quip or an insult to someone that slights him, he can come across as completely flippant and irresponsible. In a lot of ways, he is.

Johnny's a ladies man, or so he likes to advertise himself as. He loves a pretty face, and loves leaving them just as much. Permanency in the relationship department isn't something he's looking for. In fact, there's a lot of teasing that he's actually allergic to a long-term relationship, breaking out in hives if it lasts longer than a month or two.

All in all, there are worse people in the world than Johnny Storm, and he is growing up, slowly. Having to work with a group and realize that his hotheaded behavior can have dire effects on the lives of people he cares about is teaching him to think before he acts. To act instead of reacting. But, he's only human, so it's a learning process. He still messes up and slips back into the affable frat boy from time to time, but he's trying to be a better person. Sometimes.

Revision: As far as hopes and fears go, Johnny's a simple guy. He wants to keep being the way he is; good looking and awesome. He enjoys being the center of attention, particularly in regards to his team. As for fears, one could argue that he's more insecure than he lets himself on to be. He has to wonder how Ben, looking like he does, can wind up with a fox like Alicia, or how Reed, being the geeky know-it-all that he is, winds up with his sister, who is, admittedly, a babe, while Johnny keeps slipping in and out of meaningless relationships. He has a feeling if the situations were reversed and he'd wound up looking like Ben, he wouldn't have been that fortunate. A small part of him knows that his personality can be off-putting, and without his looks and abilities to back him up, he'd be resigned to spanking it to bad porn. When he thought his sister was dead, there was a small flash of fear of being alone; that the last member of his family had been stolen from him, and now he was completely alone. While he does his best to think of himself as above his other team members and act accordingly, there's still that small child inside of him, scared that he'd lost his parents and that he'd wind up alone in the world. That fear explains his need for attention and fame, as well as his inability to stay in any given relationship for longer than a few heartbeats. He worries that if someone got close enough to actually know him, they'd see him for what he really is; someone whose attitude has gotten him kicked out of more things than he cares to admit, and who isn't worth loving. Because if he had been, his parents wouldn't have died, right?

History: Info here and here.

First Person Sample:
Hey, I didn't do it on purpose, okay? I was trying to keep some mega bad from happening. It's not my fault that people don't put flame retardant on things. C'mon. They live in Manhattan. They should know that I might have to zip through sometimes. And if I do, well, I can't exactly fly without the fire, babe.

You should put that in the new city ordinance or something. 'Must flame retard everything'. Because really, like, half of the damage could have been avoided if you'd done that. Honest. Well, maybe two thirds. But Ben tosses things around just as much as I might singe things here and there. How come you're not bumming on him?

Pfft. I am not immature. I just know that I can't do my job if I'm worrying about cutting it too close to something and having someone slap a damn liable suit on my ass for damages. I'm saving people. Cut me some damn slack.

Besides, you can't say I don't look damn good doing what I do. You know I do.

Third Person Sample:
Ben was going to kill him, and it would be worth it. He'd set up the webcam to catch the giant's reaction when he triggered the trap, and it was pretty likely that Johnny could put it up on Youtube and actually make money off it. 'Best of the Fantastic Four bloopers' or something. He almost giggled as he opened his laptop and set up the recording program, hiding in the safety of his room.

Safety, of course, was a relative term. If Ben got his hands on him, that might be tested. Not like it was Johnny's fault. Ben asked for it. He got all uptight and broody and he practically begged to have a prank pulled on him. Really, Johnny was helping him out. Letting him blow off some steam. Wasn't he a great pal?

Ben walked in his room, visible in the small screen Johnny was staring at. He was bouncing on his toes as he watched, chewing his lip as he waited... waited... YES! There was a moment of silence, then a bellow of his name as Ben left his room, covered in a congealed mess of sparkly glue-- and walked into the second part of his trap, which was flaming neon pink feathers as they dumped over him. Johnny burst out laughing, which was quickly cut off as he heard thundering footsteps heading for him.

Bolting out of his room, he headed for the balcony, turning to see the mutant flamingo charging for him. "C'mon, Ben. Think of it it as my way of making you look good. You go, you fierce Thang."

The inarticulate roar that met him in response had him laughing as he ran for the balcony-- and jumped off it. "Flame on." He lit up in an inferno, slowing his fall, and reversing it. He shot up into the sky, still laughing as he passed the feathered and unimpressed face of his team member, then continued to head up into the freedom above. Might be a good idea for him to give Ben a little time to cool off. Like a week or three.

Other: Weaknesses - The Human Torch requires oxygen to use his flame powers. Without it, he would not be able to flame on or would be soon extinguished. He burns through energy rather quickly depending on his energy expenditure. Special attacks such as the Nova Flame could easily deplete his energy reserves.
