It has been days since Prince Junno saw a living person. He had been travelling over fields of brown dry grass for a couple of hours now. His white horse was starting to get tired and the young prince could use some rest himself.
"One more day" he mumbled to himself as he tied his horse to the nearby tree.
All the trees here had lost their leaves. Prince Junno heard it was like this at every season. This land was Barren.
"Why did my father send me here?" He wondered as he unwrapped his blanket and made a camp for the night.
Prince Junno was at an age suitable for getting married. His father grew ill and it wasn't long before Junno had to be on the throne. Because of that, his father send him out to Barren to fin himself a wife, someone to bare his children for the future in which he may grow ill and needs someone to take over.
Prince Junno however couldn't imagin anyone living in this place. Let alone someone he could want to marry.
At dawn the prince drove further north towards the citadel. Above the high towers of the castle were clouds, dark and grey, as if it would rain always. Junno sighed. There was nothing for him here. But he obeyed his father nontheless. As he came closer to the gates he saw the guards wearing earthy coloured gowns with dull swords that lost their shine. Junno, dressed in a dark blue velvet robe, silver armor, and a shining long sword with sapphire stones in it, stood out like a sore thumb.
The guards thought the same as he arrived.
"Who are you, and what is your purpose?" One of the guards asked him.
"I am Prince Junno from Iden, son of King Yuichi from Iden. I am here looking for a suitable wife and princess." Junno replied.
"Well I wish you good luck with that!" The other gaurd laughed.
As expacted, Junno though, there really is noone here.
As he entered the gates he took a good look around the citadel. There was a fountain in front of the gate, where girls were taking water in buckets and feeding the birds that sat there. They all looked at Junno and he realised he needed to get changed. Junno never wanted to be liked just because he was a prince, but in this place looking only a little bit colourful, you looked like a god. And Junno most definitally didn't want to be liked because he seemed like a god.
He found a store on the corner of one of the streets and purchased some grey and black striped cloth, called apparently a t-shirt. Everyone were wearing them. Some grey, some black or brown, some striped and the most interesting one he saw was a very dark blue. But even then it was still a sad sight.
Junno looked around at the buildings that were made of a grey stone. The homes didn't have much windows and there were no gardens, nor trees or flowers. He decided to go to the castle, maybe there it was better.
Once he arrived at the castles gates, made of a black metal, he saw that even there the world was colourless. There was a garden however, but it was the same brown grass he saw alot of already and there were some bushes, or rather branches, with thorns. The gardner who was busy cutting them in shape, had noticed the thorns, as they poke in his hands if he came too close.
"Excuse me?" Junno said towards the gardner.
"O hello there, just a second please, I'll be right there" He replied.
And after the gardner was done taking the thorns out of his hands, he walked towards the gates.
"Hello, my name is Junno and I come from Iden. I was wondering who lived here." the prince explained to him.
"I see. Well there is of course the King, the Queen, they have one son and there are two daughters. Of course there are also the servants. Like me" The gardner told Junno with a nervous smile.
"Thank you" Junno replied politely.
So there are princesses in this place. Junno wandered what they'd be like. Would there hair be as black like everyone elses here? Would the wear grey t-shirts? He couldn't imagine marrying anyone like that. So the prince decided to take a look around the citadel once more. Maybe there are other people here.
By the time he reached the fountain again, it had become dark and the people from the citadel were eating outside near the fountain. A bright red suddenly gaught Junno's eyes and he wanted to follow it, but while the red cloth dissappeared behind the corner an announcer came in yelling about the princesses coming out of the castle for a walk. Junno realised that if he wanted to know what they looked like, he had to stay where he was. Maybe the red cloth will return.
The people around him started to form rows on the side of the streets to let the royalties through. The horses that proceded them were black and their carriage much alike. Junno glimpsed inside and saw two young woman. Their hair was a dull black colour and the wore dark green dresses. They stepped out of the carriage, when Junno saw a glimpse of that same red again. This time he had to follow it. He ran after the person who just ran into another street.
"Wait!" Junno yelled, but the person didn't wait.
After running after the person for another street, the person fell down.
Junno walked over to the person on the ground. Was it a girl? It could be a girl.
She was dressed in a red veil, a purple veil and wore a bright blue coloured pants. Her hair was a red brown.
Junno held his hand out "Are you alright? "
The girl in the veils stood up and ran away again.
That night, the prince had a dream. He was convinced that this girl was the girl he should marry.
He couldn't stop thinking about her. . .
