those bears, always after the poor llamas. heh. i have some dreams i think would make good pictures (or better animations/short films) but i dont think i have the skill to do them justice...
I like this one though it seems different from your others. Slightly more abstract, a bit choppy and less detailed. I do like that in this pic though because it adds an air of immediacey to it.
yeah, you're right. i hadn't really noticed, but now looking back through the others it does seem a bit different. maybe it has to do with the fact i accidentally drew it upside down in the notebook! oops.
you made the face look more wolf like, while still looking like a bear, which adds to the dream like quality as do the negative/positive shapes in their almost abstract simplicity. it's neat because the usual graphic vocabulary involves some sort of motion shot or texture or fade, but you're using a different vocab.
do you consciously think of such things while drawing or do you just draw and it comes?
also, are japaense prints/brush paintings a big influence? they seem to be from this piece, but i could be wrong.
i'm glad that it looks somewhat intentional! actually, i noticed that myself after i completed the face. the eyes are farther apart than they should be for a bear's face. i was trying to convey motion, or rather a dream-like quality, when i made the background less detailed, but i'm not sure if it worked out. i guess some of it is conscious, while i'm drawing, but i don't have the skills to execute exactly what i was intending usually.
it's funny, i'm very influenced by japanese prints and brush paintings, even so much as having copied elements from them for practice, but i don't think i've applied much of that to the dream drawings. a graphic novel i'm working on will definitely show a bit more of that.
