OK so once more I reach a quandary in my life. Of course given its nature it's probably a very moot point given my past history with such things. Chances are if I take it all seriously it's just going to be a case of getting my hopes up for nothing

I can only speak from my own personal experience - I've worked for videogame companies, both up-and-coming and the extremely successful (read: Vegas Gambling equipment). In general, game companies expect you to put in horrendously long hours (there goes your personal life), often stress you really hard because of arbitrary "must release" dates, and seldom recognize or reward good efforts. Work hard and usually all you get is expected to work even harder next time
