Summer, the way it feels here

Jul 10, 2009 19:16

From May to October in SoCali we baked. Getting from the house to the car, blasting the aircon, dashing into the store or school to get back in air conditioned comfort, was all we knew. That, and the blessed relief when the air finally got hot enough to blast a hole in the ozone layer and let the cursed smog out ( Read more... )

You could almost sell the Pacific Northwest to a person, simply based on the climate ;).

Here in Yonder Mid-Atlantic, we're not as sticky hot as in previous years. But it's still too warm for my tastes (I used to like summer, but times change).

Yeah, I know our humidity will never match yours. Hubby traveled to those parts years ago and had nothing good to say about the levels of moisture in the air. Said Palm Beach, FL was absolutely the worst, though.

Where you live sounds perfect! Summer here is like living in Hell; I hate it quite passionately. Fortunately the worst usually hits after xmas, but not always. Last yrs ridiculous temps (47*C!!!) do not bode well for the future either. :~(
It's nice and cold here at the moment and LOVELY. :~)

And you suffer from the fires as we did. SOOO glad to be rid of all that.

Yes, I don't know who thought it would be a clever idea to plant eucalypts in CA. They propigate by FIRE for heaven's sake.

I've always wanted to live in the cooler mountain areas, but the fear (and inevitability) of bushfire has kept me in the suburbs. Not that that's any assurance really. Canberra, our capital, nearly went up in smoke a few yrs back, and we were frighteningly close to last yrs.

I think everything is too wet here all the time for much in the way of a fire. And, luckily, the fire station is just down the street, almost directly behind my house.

I envy you very deeply. :( We won't have anything remotely close to what you described until October or November.

If I have any advice for you at all, it is to move where you love the weather and the people when you can. We stayed in California when we could have made this move long ago. Don't stress yourself and lose years of your life living somewhere you hate, even if you hate it only a part of the year. Life's too short. My husband never lived long enough to enjoy this area for more than brief periods. He never lived here.
