I like to just go to the market part and get what I'll use in a week or so hehe... I wish I had the stamina to spend all weekend cooking but I'd probably be yelling a lot, so.
hehe.. though I do admit the fruit is wayyyy better from there than the store. I wouldn't even care if it wasn't cheaper. I can't stand apples from the supermarket. I always said I wanted to take the kids to pick something but after taking them pumpkin "picking" (where the pumpkins were already cut and in piles) I think I'd probably leave them in the orchard and run away hehehe. Maybe in the fall they will be the right ages.
I think D & L would be fine, but J might be a little pesky. Of course, whenever we see kids at the u-pick, a lot of them are just running around because they can't reach the fruit (blueberries and raspberries excepted). Actually, listening to kids picking blueberries (and their parents trying to prevent them from picking unripe ones) is really cute.
We do plan to bring our someday kids fruit picking, from day one. It's so cheap compared to Wegmans, we plan to make it a regular thing. I think this summer alone we've gone at least six times, and plan to go a few more until the apples are done. :D
This is out first year canning. We've wanted to do it, but never did. This year we finally decided to go for it. The first batch was nerve-racking, a little, because if they didn't seal right, we'd have to eat a LOT of peaches. LOL!
That said, I let John handle most of the process... I cut up fruit and assist, but he's better at the technical stuff... I get spacey. I'm also a total klutz, so handling boiling-hot glass jars with nothing but (specialized) tongs is just something I need to stay away from. LOL!

we do a lot of apple crisp here. just as good as pie without the pesky crust- much less time consuming!
