Really important medical information - and RANT about my psychiatrists

So. I am livid and relieved simultaneously. I had been feeling VERY low in/of energy since around New Year's. I figured at first that it was just because I'd worked SO hard at getting the house cleaned up before the holidays. And when I say "cleaned up", I mean WE NOW HAVE AN ENTIRE USABLE FIRST FLOOR - the living room, dining room, and kitchen are ( Read more... )

mental health, medication, psychiatrist

Thanks, Dave :) I am quite pleased with it too. Maybe down the road and not too long from now, we will be able to host a filk-sing here. I will have to work that out with Gerry.

When ritalin went generic around ten years ago, it was found that the generic form didn't work for a small percentage of patients. I don't know if they ever figured out why, but the moral is despite everyone thinking the FDA has it so together, two supposedly identical drugs can have vastly different results (and for only a few patients), let alone two very similar but not the same drugs.

Medications really do have different effects on different people, and you KNOW how you feel, and the doctors you have really need to listen to you!

YES. THIS.

Stick to your truth. If possible, fire Dr. Doddering and find a different practitioner. There's a relatively recent specialty called Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and the one I'm seeing has done me far more good than either of the emm-dee-ities whose prescriptions did no good or some harm, respectively.

If you're still in the D.C. area, check with museinred for medical recommendations. She'll probably have some good ones, and that's what you need right now, not tampering idiots.

*deep breath, shift topic*

I'm glad that things are coming together for you, and I hope they'll continue to improve.

Thanks for your support. I was thinking of just sticking with this guy, but maybe you and a few other friends are right, and I should seek someone else. I had not heard of psychiatric nurse practitioners, that's a great idea. I need to of course find someone who takes my insurance. Yes, I will also contact France - we are due to speak to each other tonight anyway, and I will ask for her recommendations. Now that I have my old "get up and go" back, I intend to make a lot of progress. I hope I will be able to post and read more on LJ.I kind of 'live' on Facebook.
Hope all is well with you and N and the kids!
