Anyone who says "they're in a better place now" will definitely get an angry response from me. It's an insult to everyone who was a part of their lives and implies that any effort to keep them alive was just a selfish attempt to deny them the joys of Heaven.
Sometimes, as you say, the only thing is to admit that it sucks.
There are times I think of our extended community as both a blessing and a curse. We have the opportunity to meet and communicate with people all across the country and the world, and our lives are vastly enriched. But we also hear more about folks' various trials and tribulations. And of course find ourselves losing far more friends.
Thankfully, the moments of joy far, far, far exceed the moments of sadness.
An excellent post. I've struggled myself with what to say or how to reach out to friends who have suffered losses. I'm better than I used to be, but I still have much room to improve.
