The whole Obama-wins-Peace-Prize thing is even more ridiculous when you consider the fact that all nominations for this year's awards had to be turned in sometime in February. Meaning that Obama was nominated after being the President for less than a month.

This is exactly why I was on the fence for so long during the election last year. I didn't like the "Obama-mania" that was going on. People were so excited and thought the world was going to change immediately when he was elected. It also saddens me that the people who give out the Nobel Peace Prize seem to toss them out as some sort of Pavlovian response to how they think American politics should be - Carter, Gore, now Obama... I'm not saying that Obama will never live up to people's hopes for him, but it is troubling that he got nominated for/won the thing when he had barely taken office. If my students tell me "I'm going to study really hard for the next test, see? Look at all my notes!" I'm not going to respond with "Awesome! You get an A for your good intentions!" Sheesh.
