a burial at sea, of course

Question of the day, from a new 1st grade student (US grade 7) and translated by the Japanese teacher:

"If you had a golden fish, and it died, what would you do with it? Would you put it in the ground, or would you put it in the dust bin?"

That was the toughest one all day...this job rules.

that's so good! what did you answer?
i didn't get anything so interesting. the best I had was this dialog this afternoon:

kida: (to kid b) ask if she likes junk food
kidb: (to kid a) I can't ask that!
kida: (to kid b) then ask her if she likes gum!
kidb: (to me) do you like gum?
me: yes
Kidb: (to kid a) she likes junk food!

haha I love the logic.

ha, well, after serious thought about the moral implications of having a> having a golden fish, and b> throwing a golden fish away; or c>simply throwing away a goldfish, which i'm sure is what he meant, i gave him the straight answer: in America, we flush them down the toilet. immediately after that, 33 twelve year olds about died of laughter. it made my day.

and that logic is crystal clear. you quite obviously love junk food, molly. also, i've been relatively unsuccessful on the hunt for "robin's eggs" in Akita prefecture, and also in my jaunt to Aomori last weekend. i won't give up, though!

Did you remind them that there is no such thing as a "dust bin"? Or better yet, ask them where they put their dust when it dies. Smarmy little pieces of shit!

i always laugh to myself when i hear someone call it a dust bin. it's a rare occasion where my dust ever winds up in there.
