dude you can't just casually mention seeing jens lekman and mt. eerie shows without the details! did they talk about bacon? cover japanese songs? etc etc!
why can't i? actually, i shouldn't have. the shows were a highlight of my trip.
mt. eerie had a big crowd, and he played for awhile alone, and then with a band of Japanese guys. the songs were nice, and sounded like he was making them up on the spot. the lights turned evil and red during the band's set. my only annoyance was that he kept saying things like "none of you understand me", etc., even though half of the crowd were foreigners.
jens' show the next night was terrific. he played a calimba from Sierra Leone for about 4 songs, and he sang songs in English, Swedish, Italian and Japanese. the Swedish song was a lullabye, and he played it twice, once translated into English. it was a tiny place, and Tenniscoats opened, and that sounded pretty awesome, too. didn't you say that your students sent jens fan letters?
