Study: Prayer doesn't affect heart patients

NEW YORK (AP) -- In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that having people pray for heart bypass surgery patients had no effect on their recovery. In fact, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a slightly higher rate of complications.

On the other hand, my coworker watched this last night, and she told about a study they discuss where patients are cut (with a knife), and then one is stuck in the hospital to heal while the other goes home and heals with family and friends. No creams or anything were applied, and both subjects would be comparable in health. And the ones who healed at home would end up healing seven days faster than the ones at the hospital ( ... )

I think your last sentence sums it up. Prayer might cause people more harm because they think their recovery is in some higher power's hands. A support healing network at home seems obviously more restorative than a hospital because hospitals are so dreary and scary.
