What a Week…

This past Thursday, after making the arrangements for my much-needed gall bladder surgery, we quite unexpectedly had to say good-bye to our dear little black cat Gwynn. Sympathy! I am glad that Gwynn's departure was as peaceful and in loving company as anyone could possibly imagine, but it is always a tragic loss to see a beloved pet go.

Hope your recovery from surgery is swift!

Good to hear you had some very positive comments from art directors, and that is an interesting observation about them feeling like your style could be inconsistent, because you had provided a range of options.

I would have leaned toward providing a range as well, when aiming at a publisher with the aim of becoming part of their style, but I wonder if they want to see is 'your' voice? I mean, picture down the road, Sue Rankin is a brand name like Michael Whelan or Nagel, everyone wants a Sue Rankin cover, but what do they picture when they think of that? And they want to match the style of the artist with the book, perhaps...

Hmm, y'know, if that were the case, it might be interesting to develop several artistic pseudonyms and give each one a style, then see which one 'sticks'.
