After this.Darla is safe, Connor is safe, Kara is safe. The Immortal has lived a good portion of his many lifetimes with the belief that only results matter. In that case, this mission has been a great success, and more. Everyone he wanted to save, or protect, is alive and well. He didn't have to make any tough choices between them, and it's ( Read more... )

"You know," says the voice behind him. "It would have been pretty stupid of you to hand over your memories to him. Who knows what he could have done to them? You can't just hand parts of your soul around like that."

"I probably don't take good enough care of my soul," he admits, and he's not sure if he's just bantering or if he means it. "I've spent so much time with it, I probably take it for granted."

Turning, he says, "How are you, sweetness? You were amazing in there." And as he lifts his arm to scratch behind his neck, she can see the blood on his sleeve from two nights ago. Two nights and an eternity.

"You don't take good enough care of your clothing either." She replies. "You should be more careful on both counts."

He looks down at the sleeve and stammers, "Oh that's. . .that's nothing."

Then he remembers Kara pulling the trigger on the sorceror, and wonders how much he really knows about her at all.

"There's no point in my lying to you, is there?"

She's lying on the bed thinking about what she usually thinks about when she has any spare time to think at all. Tucker Wells. What is Tucker doing now? Is he with a girl? Does he miss her? Will he get her a birthday present?

Happiness is a red slushie. And love is Tucker Wells.

Todd knocks on the door. "Kara?" He wrinkles the paper bag in his hand so that she can hear. "Did I come through or did I come through?"

Never having actually been a high school boy, he is not entirely aware what a parody of a desperate-to-please teenager he is acting out at the moment. Not entirely, but he has seen some movies. He has an idea.

He opens the bag, and starts to sit down on her bed, before it occurs to him that he's spent enough time sitting on the bed next to this fifteen-year-old girl for one week.

Besides, it's a big room.

He sprawls on a love seat, instead, pulls a Ziploc bag from out of the paper one, and shakes it, so that the brownish weeds rattle against the plastic. "You have any preference on how we do this?"
